Default Hangar 9 Aresti Help

I just started working on my new Hangar 9 Aresti and I had a little troube gluing the wing together using 30 minute epoxy. It took a while to get the wing to fit right and ended up with a small gap in the joint. Im also worried that the epoxy didn't bond well enough and that the two wing halfs might come apart in flight. How can I strengthen the wing joint so that I know it will hold together? Thanks for the help!

Can you pour some more epoxy in the gap?

I tried to put some more epoxy in the gap but it was too small to get enough in it. Is there a way you can test the strength of the joint?

Thanks,

Kyle

How much of the rib contact area is the gap in? In other words, where and how large in cross section is the gap?

Filling it with epoxy is a good idea, but you need to rough up the inside of the gap before you fill it so the new epoxy will stick well.

You could also cut off about 1/2" of covering all the way around the wing (careful not to cut the wood) and glass the joint. Then recover. Some people do this anyway.

Most of the strength in the wing joint is in the joiner that goes into the spars.

Did the epoxy set up hard, was the joiner to long and held the wings apart a little? , either way I agree that carefully lifting off an inch or two of econocoat covering and glassing with CA and fiberglass cloth will relieve your anxiety, you can recover the center on the bottom of the wing easy enough, and it doesn't show much anyway. This is a fine bird and you will enjoy. I have one with a Saito 72 10x6 APC RD6000 with expo and flaperons that is a blast. Cuda

There is only about 1mm of a gap in the cross section and is mainly toward the trailing edge of the wing. Im going to fiberglass the joint to make sure it is strong. Thanks for the help guys!

BTW: Awesome plane! It's my first post-trainer bird and it's so darn fast I get the jitters every time I try some new stunt with it. The factory recommended elevator throw for low rates seems like it's not much, so check the H9 website to see if you got the latest throws. My first take-off on low rates (oops) barely had enough elevator to lift off.
