Guys, is anyone using an O.S. .91FX and standard servos (S3003 or S148) on their Goldberg Decathlon ARF? I'm seriously considering ordering one from Tower, but these are the only components I have on hand. I don't plan on trying to make a 3d machine out of this plane, but I don't want to hamstring it either! I tried to download the manual, but Goldberg is charging $4.95 for the privilege.
Can the engine be mounted inverted with a pitts muffler?
Any comments, pro or con will be appreciated.

I have one with a saito 100 and standard servos, 3003's. Motor is inverted without problems. You may need standoffs or a spacer to move the engine forward.

Balanced without any extra weight using a TruTurn 2-3/4" spinner. Flies really well on a 15x6 Apc. I also have a OS 91FX which flies well with a 13x8, I'd also try a 14x6.

ANE002 your looks very nice, I like your hatch idea. I am considering one this winter with a Saito 100. my only concern was I dont want to cut the cowl and try to maintain the lines. Does your 100 have enough airflow over the head to keep it cool? Any issues with that?

ANE002, is that hatch stock, or did you fab. it? Very nice! Are those Z-bends on the struts? Do the struts come off with the wing panels? I can't figure out how you would attach z-bends while sliding the wing on its tube. [sm=confused.gif]

A-Nuts...(That just doesn't sound right!! [sm=lol.gif] )...The hatch I fabed my self...Crashmaster (Paul Reece) got me started with his Lancair hatch, which I did on my Lancair also...Check for threads by him or on the Lancair ARF on how to do it.....Yes, they are Z-bends, however the other ends that mount to the wings are clevis ends...so you can put the struts on after the wing is mounted....
D-kid...(That's better than A-nuts [sm=wink.gif] )I have not had an issue with airflow..I've flown in the heat of summer without any problem....
If you need more info...Just holler.

I would say the quality is fine....But I am only one person. Prior to buying mine I read numerous threads here regarding this plane... Do a search on Decathlon and read about the various arf's out there. I'm happy with mine!

I am interested in the Goldberg Decathlon. I have an OS 91 4 stroke that needs a good home.
Question: How is the quality of this ARF?

I have the Carl Goldberg Decathlon with a OS 91FS and she flies and looks great. In my opinion the quality of this ARF is very good.

Here's mine. TT .91FS. Over powered it is NOT. Standard JR servos except for rudder, which was higher torque. Found my own decals, added a pilot and checkerboarding to the leading edge of wings. Other than that, pretty much out of the box. It will make a good flyer out of you, simply because it is not so nimble. Rudder is a must. It looks great doing touch and go's. Very scale-like flyer. Buy one and have fun.

Is there room in the cowl to mount a .90 2 stroke (with pitts muffler, of course) without savaging the cowl with a huge hole for the head?
I have an ULTRA reliable ST G-90 motor to mount in this ARF...if it'll fit.

I flew a Goldberg Decathalon with both a saito 150 (way overpowered, shook the forewall loose) then with an OS 91 FX with a pitts muffler. The plane flew very well. I did have to cut back to a 14 X 6 prop though as we have a small field. Landings can be tough if you can't slow it down. The combination had plenty of power. Speed is not the issue for the aerobatics.

I have the Decathlon with an OS .91FX in it.....I also have a Slimline "pitts" style muffler on it which really makes the engine sound like a four stroke! I put Futaba's 3151 low cost digital servos in it too with a 1000 Mah Ni-Cad....all is fine, but of course there is some trimming of the cowl to be done, but not much.....if you put the "Pitts" style muffler on it....Good luck with your decathlon
