Default Which Vectorflight: Edge 540 or Extra 300 ?

Hey Guys,

First a brief history: I am on my 3rd plane ATM. My first was a trainer (of course) that was lost due to radio interference. My second is H9 US40 (still flying the wings off it). And my third is a H9 Aresti 40 (nice sport plane, not pattern plane). I am looking to step up in model size now and I am very interested in what Vectorflight has to offer.

My dilemma: I am unsure as to which plane to get. I have narrowed it down to 2 choices - the Edge 540 or the Extra 300. I really enjoy aerobatics (as anyone in my club can tell you...). I want a plane that can take whatever you dish at it, yet still be fairly stable when you want/need it to be. I know that neither of these planes are very forgiving, but neither is my Aresti and I love flying her. I want to be able to progress with my aerobatic skills with my next plane. I have read many threads on this company, even e-mailed them a couple times with very fast response times, and I am very impressed with the quality and craftmanship of their planes.

Can anyone help me out and give me the pros and cons of both planes? I have received plenty of helpful advice on previous threads and value everyone's opinion. Thanks in advance for any/all advice.

You cant go wrong with either of these. I have both and flying them for over a year, and love them equally. IMO the advantage with the Edge is the removable 2 piece wings which are easier to haul around than the big 66 inch wing on the extra. Both are highly aerobatic, tumble very nicely, and once you have a feel for them pretty easy landing. The edge actually lands better than many trainers Ive had as you can get it slow enough. It is also more sensitive on the elevators but can be tamed with expo and rates. I did a couple of mods including switching to larger wheels, and installing tail struts. Both are using 91fxs with low pitch props which give them excellent vertical authority and good slow speed characteristics.

I had the 66 inch extra and it was the best plane that I ever owned. I had about 250 flights on it when I lost it to a bad rx battery. I will be getting another one as soon as I finish some of the projects that I am working on first. I flew mine with a Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke on it and it was perfect. With a 14x6 APC prop on it I had unlimited vertical. You will love whichever plane you choose. The vectorflight planes are the best money you will ever spend in the RC hobby. The extra was my first real performance plane after flying a 4*60 for two years. I was worried that it would be too much to handle but when I flew it the first time I was in love. You will be suprized at how much better you can fly with a great plane. If you love aerobatics and like to do spins and snaps get the extra it will stall easier and snaps better than the edge. If you like to 3D get the edge as you can fly it slower and it is easier to land. here are some pictures of my dearly departed extra.

Thanks bumstead I totaly forgot all about it until I was your post. I hope the cowl and belly pan found a good home on your plane. I have to get me another vectorflight plane one of these days. I only have 1/4 scale and larger these days. the only small plane that I own is a H9 ultra stik that I got in a trade. If anything happens to it I will replace it with a VF edge.
