I have a new ARF, the Giant Scale Models Extra 300S. I decided to use a gasoline 2 stroke for the engine (RCS 140). Chance had it one of our club members just happened to have this engine for sale. The engine is brand new and never ran, but since it was bought from an individual no warranty to the manufacture was included.
Last Saturday we got the first flight out and she did well except for a cut out at high rpm. Not knowing enough about the engine I called RC Showcase and they informed me that this engine was older and had a lower rpm rev limit in the ignition module, 9014 instead of the new limit of 13,000. They told me to drop off or send them the module and they would reset the limits, also he recommended a larger prop so I could keep the rpms down. The manual recommended a 16x8 and he said a 17x8 would work better.
I dropped the module off Monday at the front door of RC Showcase in Waldorf MD and by Tuesday evening it was on my doorstep in Southern Maryland. I just want to let everyone know how happy I am with the quick turnaround and great service, and RC Showcase knowing that I had bought the engine from someone other than them didn’t change the attitude nor lessen the quality of service. It’s hard to find this kind of service these days.
The plane weighs 13.5 lbs and seems like it will be a perfect sport combination, after break in I’ll know more about the performance. RC Showcase keep up the good work!!!!

I was really worried about this issue because of the forms I've read, but this little engine really pulls well. Some forms I've read raved about the power and some complained. I've only have three 5 minute flights and two tanks of ground runs done on the engine. Since I had module problems and the engine is set very rich for break in I think it will get even better, but take off was ten feet and it was up. I'm also trying a bigger prop and spinner the next flight. Hopefully this weekend I will get to fly a complete flight and find out what my limits are. I did lots of research before buying this engine and it is the lightest, and cheapest gas I could find. If it doesn't work fo me I thought about putting it in a Funtana 90.
I tried my best to keep wing loading down so the plane would fly nice with no bad habits, even if I would have went lighter with glow I would have needed nose weight for balance and that would have defeated the purpose of light wing loading. The only thing I can think is this engine may be a little stronger than others, the manual said to use a 16x8 for break in and it was turning 9000+ rpm's rich, so I'm going to a 17x8 to bring the rpm's down to mid 8000 range. I'll let you know what happens.
