JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH MUFFLER TO BUY BEFORE I GET THE FUNDS FOR IT.. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

I'm sitting here looking at mine with an Irvine 150 and pitts muffler mounted in it and I can see no possible way a stock muffler will work. The engine mounts to high on the firewall. I was going to mount my Saito 180 in it but the stock muffler will not work on it as well without bending the coupler to a 90 degree angle. So I would say it's best to use a pitts muffler.

You also need to do some searching on RCU there was several threads awhile back on this plane. Mine is going to maiden Friday, weather permitting. Good Luck!

No it will not work, os 160, irvine 150, mds 1.48, Saito ( will with mods). Plain and simple no. The irvine is pretty much the same size as the os 160. Like I said the engine mounts so high on the firewall that no matter what engine it will not clear. Center line is 3 1/2" up from the bottom without the bottom plate attached. This puts the motor mount clear at the top of the firewall. The top motor mount beam is a 1/2" from the top of the firewall. I will try and post a pic in my gallery so you can see what I mean.

I have had 2 of these planes, and am waiting for the parts to repair the second one. CAP232 is right, the engine mounts to high on the firewall, and too far back to accommodate a stock muffler. The pitts style muffler is the definitive way to go. I had a ST3000 in my planes, and the BCM, pitts style mufflers worked fine.

Hope this helps, Bill

I cut the engine box off mine and mounted some standoffs with a 3W 24i on the nose and a Pefa tuned canister in the belly and it fits like a GLOVE .
