Hey everyone
I'm about to order a four star 60 ARF. I'm most likely just going to use my skyport 4 channel futaba if thats ok at least until christmas then maybe a 7 cap. Will Standard servos be ok or should I get like 1 high torque servo for the elevator or..? I'm also not sure of the engine. I would like to have some nice verticle.
.61 FX -tower hobbies 75- I want to try to stay away from 4 strokes unless you think a cheaper brand is good like magnum. But a wise flyer once told me cheap is seldom good and good is seldom cheap. What prop>? Any other mods i need to make to the plane that are worthwhile?
Thanks for taking your time to check this out

So far the magnum 4 strokes I have had (.61 and .91) are working great and I've got them both on sale for killer prices.
That being said I think either engine you mentioned will be good - the .75 might be a little better and I've read good things about it in the engine forum.
I just won a 4*40 ARF at the club meeting raffle last night....

I would go with a ST.90 . It will pull you verticle forever and get you out of tuff situations. You can then use the engine for something else bigger in the future. One thing you may want to do is make a new rudder and make it larger for better knife edging. Standard servos are fine for it...... my .02 thanks

I have had two of these arfs, good plane. The landing gear is weak. Needs beefing up.The firewall needs reenforcing. The plane will knife edge nice. I fly mine with a g90 supertigre. Nice vertical.

Yep a .75 2C and std servo's will do just fine in your 4 Star 60.
That's how mine is set up, been flying it now for nearly 10 years, just as good now as it was back then.
Cheers

Would a Tower Hobbies .75 pull it unlimited vertical? I don't really feel like wasting almost 3 gallons to break in the ST 90. So will the .75 be good?
Is there any threads about the mods needed to the ARF?
Thanks again

Dude its like about only 4 tanks (1 hour of slobbering rich running in at 50% throttle or so) of breaking in on the ground before flying for another 2 gallons to see how good this engine can be. For its low price you will not regret it. I was sceptical about mine and I just tried it, ready to loose my money or sell it cheap, now? I love the ST G90. Like I always say, not a screamer of an engine but performs so well. Mine is only about 3 gallons old, some people tell me they last for years and years ... something an OS or TT will not do. Oh yes ... the ST G90 can throw a 15x6 prop for sure. throws my 14x6 with total ease.

I'm tellin you man. ST .90 is the way to go.. You can find one dirt cheap on ebay. Then it is even broke in for ya. Then when you out grow the 4* and want somethin bigger and more advanced you can put that engine in the new plane. They are good engines. A friend of my has one in his and has over 400 flights on it and he goes balls to the walls............

ya...
I would say get some digital servos, or atleast a digital for the rudder * elevator
also, anything less then a saito 180 will not do for this plane
Also man stay away from tower engines... get a super tiger90 2-stroke (114 at towerhobbies), you'll get unlimited vertical

I flew my 4 star 60 all sumer (over 40 flights) with a super tiger 75. Plane has Hitec 475 on all control surfaces. Unlimited vertical and will nife edge all day long with a small input from the ruder. You do not need digitals, save your money and get the supert tiger 75 or 90.
I plan to use my tower 75 next season.

Anyways Thanks guys for all your help, what I would have with out all of you... a .61 fx that can't pull verticle and is overpriced.
thanks again

Hey all I'm having sudden second thoughts. Should I get the 40 or 60. it seems like the 40 might be funner to fly because it is smaller and it can roll quicker and loop quicker because it has less massmto move. It will also be cheaper. We actually ordered the 60 from the hobby shop but I can still go either way. I guess I'm just scared that I'm payin all this and then not gonna like the plane.
I know I will like it but I'm worried I'll be too scared to fly the 60. Also my landing strip isn't that big. I'm so confused.
Please offer your advice
Thanks

I know you will love the plane. I have the 60 with an Irvine .73 this thing is a rocket. It will hover @ around 3/4 throttle. knife edge and all. I had a Tower 60 at first and it was no good. I love the new Irvine. I want a Saito 100 to put in her. I love my 4Star60 When I crash it beyond repair I will probably get another one. I would love to get the 1.20 but I do not have time to build. If it were a ARF.. I would have one tomorrow!!

I have an OS 91 4 stroke on mine. I love it. I like it a lot better than my 40 size. 40 has a 46 AX and is WAY overpowered, but still lands like a trainer. The 60 isn't as fast, but is so graceful, and a lot easier to see.

Go with the 60 sized, and a ST G90.. IT will be easier to see and fly and it will make you look like a better pilot because it'll be more gracefull... I have an ST G51 and I love it! It swings an 11x6 at 13,000! And this is the ringed version! It's not even leaned out! Hovers myy 6lbs. trainer at 1/2 throttle... I would recomend the ST line of engines to any one.. I'm even gettng the G2300 for X-mas to go in an Ultra Stick Lite... My .02

Yes It's ordered now with a ST 90
!!! Yellow version. I plan to reverse and cut the canopy and add a pilot. Probally a cut up toy figure. Add White stripes on the bottom for orientation. I was Thinking about 3" wheels for our grass and a sullivan tailwheel. Maybe a new tank? How about the landing gear, how do you enforce it? Any other major mods? Thanks for all the help and advice. It has went a, long way towards making my desicion.
thanks again

You will like the 60 size. 60 size and larger seem to roll better and ground handel better than 40 size stuff. The extra wingspan and weight also make them fly smoother.

sorry for these questions.
I just found out yesterday that our LHS isn't ordering it till Monday. We were pretty much set on the ST 90 till some guys where we fly said you'll be adjusting and tuning that engine till you die and that the O.S. .61 is the way to go because its a fine running engine. I would just like to now how much power it has. I don't want it to do 3D even though it can't anyway. What i would like is atleast a little Vertical pull. I love taking off pulling up and watching it climb. It doesn't have to be unlimited but I would like it to be pretty good. Would the .61 pull it unlimited vertical? Thnaks for the last minute advice
