I started flying it last Friday, love it. The wt of my plane is 15.5lbs with ZDZ40 gas engine. I am on my 2nd gal and having unlimited verticals. After 5th gal I will lean it and change the prop that will give me more power and a lot of flying pleasure. A very good combination in my opinion.

Hi Geistware, to tell you the truth, I am deeply impressed with the construction of this bird. Although I had to work in the tail area and reinforced the land gear but its all worth it.
I was so afraid to fly it on my own for two reasons, first it is my first gas plane and secondly I was not sure the airframe will be able to handle ZDZ40, but to my surprise the plane took off very gently and flew very well.
Couple of guys in my club has flow it and they had really liked it. 1/2 throttle take offs and glides in for landing is a fun.

I have been thinking of that engine combination myself. Thanks for the reply.I too am just starting to go gas for the first time on an airplane. Is the only or best place to get those engines is at rcshowcase? Thanks for any help locating me a place to buy one.I am hesitant to put the 160 on it.I think will be plenty to power it but not do any of the 3d,slow verticals and many of the other manuvers I want to do.Thanks Tivey

My Ridge Runner comes in at 16.5 lbs. with a Saito 180.
Just finished the full cockpit with a "Doc Miller" pilot from Blue Box Toys. Made a plywood seat with armored back and head rest, raido detail on the rear shelf, cockpit sides from a Top Flite kit and home made instrument panel.
The rest of the weight comes from the drop tanks, retract tail wheel and a extra elevator servo for a total of 14 servos.
Will do the first (of many) flight next weekend.
Sorry, I stoped reading the thread title after "World Models 80"" and thought the topic was the Mustang... never mind.

I have just build this plane. I'm looking at putting a da 50 or a bme 50. The weight is less than a 3w-42 and some other engines. This is a nice model!

Flew my WM 80" Extra today. It weighs 16lbs with a BME 44. Balanced right on the money, no extra weight required. Takes off at 1/2 throttle and goes vertical forever at 1/2 throttle. Engine is brand new so taking it easy with it. After trimming it flew great and flies inverted hands off, no down elevator required.

How did u mount your engine. was the spacing right for the cowling. Also did you mount it at a angle or verticale. It sounds like it will hover nicely

I used the H9 alum. 2 piece mount. The BME is mounted inverted with a J and A pitts muffler. Spacing for cowl was fine, no mods required. However I did have to modify the bottom of the motor box for muffler clearance.
