Default .40 sized GP Extra 300s Weakness

I never was concerned about the thin, light horizontal stabs on this model until yesterday. Just after a clean flat spin, when I had the nose down, and the revs stopped, I went to level out and found the left horizontal stab had folded up. Using any elevator just resulted in a snap roll dive right into the bean field. Maybe I'll try to fix it, maybe not. The break was right where the LE and TE sticks meet the solid piece about 3/4" from the fuse. Easy on these tail feathers.

Yep, it's the ARF. I'm thinking I'll repair or replace it. If I do, I'm going to put struts from the stab tips to the fin tip. I love this plane, and I miss it already. I got away with many spins before, I guess the last time, I did everything just right (or just wrong).

I know what you mean, I feel the same way about the plane. What size engine are you running ?. Got an Irvine .53 in mine. Lots of vertical.
I checked my horizontal stab and it sure doesn't seem that weak back there.
Funny thing, a friend of mine has a Giles with a fuslage kinda the same shape as the extra. After a hard landing he was taking the wing off and the fuslage fell apart. It broke in two above where the LE of the wing rests against the former so I really reinforced that area. Never would have guessed the H stab.

I had an OS.46FX with a tower muffler, It was spinning an APC 11X5 at 13800 (slightly richened). I had a lot of fun with it. A friend of mine just maidened his new 25% GP Giles 202 and made a subtle remark to the effect of selling his 27% Gas CAP232. Buying that would certainly take my mind off of my "compromised" EXTRA 300s heh heh. I hope he's serious. How are those Irvine 53s? I hear they scream.

Lots of power.. They are one sweet running engine. Gives me all the vertical I want in the 300.
