U-can-do with the saito .82. if this is your second plane......the Venus will bite you if you don't have some level of skill with low wings.
The U-C-D will be more forgiving and allow you to get into aerobatics and 3D at the same time.

I would like to learn both pattern and 3d. I think I'm going to have to have both eventually. Or, maybe the ucd first. I'm just worried about the wings coming off the ucd if I fly pattern maneuvers.

Pattern and 3D? Go for the Hangar 9 Funtana 40 ... I had it and its nice to fly pattern. I powered mine with an SC46 at first and it flew very nicely for pattern and general flying. Later I put in a Saito 72 and the plane performed very very nicely. The Funtana has the large surfaces for 3D but it tracks like its on rails and is nice for pattern flying, not too floaty like a Magic or Magic Extra.
Oh yes ... landings are slow and steady.
