The Advance 40 is one great flying plane. I had one for over a year and it would do anything you ask it to do and yet still land like a trainer. Mine was powered by a Magnum 53 2-stroke and had good power and vertical. I'm not to sure about your 40, is it a LA or FX? I'm sure it would fly it fine, but to get the most out this plane a good BB 46 is about perfect.

I have seen many of these fly and have flown several. A good ballbearing 46 is an ideal power plant for this plane. In four strokes it would be hard to beat a Saito 72..

Dunno about max speed ... but I can tell you an old OS40FP will fly my Sig 4*40 adequately. No great excess of power but OK for a leisurely Sunday cruiser. I had an Advance 40 once (great plane but died in a mid-air collision) and I would expect it to fly about the same with the OS40FP ... but again, no great excess of power. My old (and perhaps worn out) OS40FP w/ a Macs muffler turns an APC 10x6 at about 10,500 rpm. Using the ThrustHP.exe calculator that equates to about 60 mph ... I think that's pretty optimistic.

IMHO the OS40FP is adequate if that's all you have, but like others have said a good 46 would be much better. My Advance 40 had an OS46FX on it and it was a hot rod.

Live long, and prosper

I had one with a TT61pro on it and used it as a warm up plane. Real nice plane. I converted it to a tail dragger

elkiwi, I think it will be difficult to fine one of those........they've been out of production for a while now. I would probably scan eBay regularly....one might pop up.

Makes sure you glue in the stabs and vertical stabilizer instead of using their screw in method. I have seen these things crash with people who just screwed in the stuff.

I was flipping through a magazine last night and saw an ad for the Kyosho Calmato Sports........the design looks a lot like the Advance 40.

It's actually a newer plane that is still being advertised.....what I think the issue is that Tower no longer carries Kyosho planes. I don't know where else you could find one, but I know they are not discontinued. They even had it listed in the "what's new" section of one of the magizines recently.
