Default Recommend a 2 Stroke for my H9 Twist

Need some advice on a good 2 stroke for my Twist. I was considering the Magnum .52a or the Thunder Tiger .61 Pro. Would also like something that allows the plane to balance well without adding any additional weight.

TIA

52 is a .40 size block.
60 is a 60-90 size block.
I would stick with a .40-.58 type, such as an OS .46AX, magnum 52, Tiger Shark .56, etc

i also believe you should stick with the .40 size case the .60 size engine will be a little on the heave side. the Magnum will be on the light side though. If you slide the motor forward on the mount all the way and try and put the battery under the gas tank. I put a heave spinner nut on and opted for the battery and reciever right behind the tank with the motor slid all the way out on the mount. I used a GMS .47. without the nose weight on the plane it flies about the same as with the weight on but it lands nicer with the weight on "not quite so much floating" what ever you decide to do have fun flying

Only one choice as far as I am concerned..........OS 50 with a 12 1/4 X 3 3/4 APC prop. Balances perfectly. Awesome power, perfect transition

The Jett BSE76L is the same size as the 46FX and 10 grams lighter then the 46 ....The power of the 76 is massive....JW

I'll second the OS 50 w/ 12.75x3.75 APC prop. I had run 3 tanks of fuel through the new engine before I couldn't stand it any more. On the maiden flight of my Twist the motor was still running a bit rich. I nailed the throttle, the plane was off the ground in about 10 feet. I added elevator and the plane went straight up about 300 feet before I chickened out. What a rocket ... lol ... and this is at 4200 feet elevation and w/ an untouched stock muffler. I only got about 6-7 flights on the plane over the next couple of weeks then winter arrived here in Nevada and I haven't flown since before Christmas. The engine is still running rich and I'm very pleased ... it's time to start leaning it out. I can't wait to see what it'll do when it's finally peaked out. Even running rich, the plane will hover at about 60% throttle.

I completed assembly of the plane and installation of all the servos, radio, battery and etc. Then I set the engine on the rails and tested for balance before drilling holes in the motor mount. The motor is mounted towards the front of the mount and the battery is right behind the fuel compartment . Balance turned out perfect as the plane flew hands off inverted and hands off upright on the maiden flight w/ only a couple clicks of trim.

This is the first plane I've owned that has "enough power" ... lol

Live long, and prosper

Just noticed the TT61 Pro is considerably heavier as compared to the Mag 51a.

I have a TT .46 Pro in mine. It is the best low cost option in my opinion. My next choice if cost wasn't a primary deciding factor would be a Webra .50. The Magnum .52 would be a great choice as well. Optimum for this airframe is the Saito .82. Four-strokes, however are more difficult to install and cost a lot more which I'm guessing is your reason for sticking with a two-stroke. Awesome plane no matter what you choose!

I just bought three ARF's and the wife almost threw me out. If I spend another 150.00+ on a 4 stroker for this plane, I'd be history for sure. That's why I'd figured I'd best go with a 2 stroke for this project as the other two are getting 4 strokes.

You may want to look at the Tiger Shark 56 2-stroke - almost .61 power but weight is the same as OS .46. You will find it at www.kangkeusa.com. - it sells for about $60.00. I like it.

You will end up nose-heavy w/ a 20+ oz engine such as the Magunm/OS 70 4-stroke, not to mention ground clearance limit to drive you to a 12" prop that removes the advantage of 4-stroke on 3D planes. However, you can mount the battery at the tail. APC 13x4W is the best 3D prop for the 70 4-stroke on a place this size. It's also more scratch proof than a non-wide APC prop.

One advise for you man, ARF can be returned easily and re-purchased later at a more appropriate time. However, a wife is much more difficulty to re-purchase once gone. So weigh your priority carefully. Since you can't build 3 planes at the same time, I'd return 2 to sooth your wife's anger. Well, at least you can say you exchange 1 for the 4-stroke engine, and return another 1. Whatever you do, just remember that if you want to fly RC for the long haul, you need your wife's favor for the planes. Finding that balance, my friend, is the secret of a satisfactory RC.. errr I mean marriage life.

Thanks for the advice. My wife quickly got over the whole ordeal of buying three planes at once. Yesterday, she spent $150.00 dollars on a hair cut and I didn't tell her anything other than I like her hair long and always have, but go figure.

Was thinking of going with the OS-50SX actually, but just love the torque and sound of a 4 banger.

Has anybody tried the evo 46? My friend just bought one and he doesnt want to buy a new engine. He can just move all of his stuff from his trainer to it.

You'll like your Twist a lot more with a 4 stroke on it. I flew mine first with a 2 stroke, then swapped in a Saito .56. So much nicer. With battery in fuel tank compartment, plane balances in the rear half of the CG range.

You think the Mag 70RFS is too heavy?
