Default Vectorflight Extra & Edge, How do they fly

I am interested in the Vectorflight Edge or Extra. It appears that it is a great ARF. Do they fly as good as they look?

In a word, YES! You can do a search here for Vectorflight and read all the comments that Vectorflight owners have to say. You can also get great tips and suggestions on these fabulous birds. You won't find a better built ARF anywhere and their customer support is second to none.

I have both the "Edge' & the "Extra" (66" ea.)---Personally I much prefer the "Extra" for both build & fly reasons---

Why is that?

Well......From a "Build" standpoint, the "Edge" two/piece wing mounting design is very unconventional & cumbersome, a nice clean tube mount, IMO would have been more simple & accurate---It may be that a tube mount is cost prohibitive to sell at that price, if that's the case then IMO I would just prefer the conventional one/piece wing like the "Extra"---From a "Fly" standpoint, IMO the "Extra" has a more stable & solid feel, all the way to the runway---Now, having said that I will also say they are BOTH a real BARGAIN!, considering what you get for your money---These are opinions, mine----Again I have both airplanes

Ekir,

The Vectorflight Edge is one impressive flying machine! I was amazed by the laser cut quality of the airframe and finish of the airplane. I usually fly 1/4 scale and use the Vector Edge when I can't haul around the big birds. You can tell that it is a solid, functional design, with the refined and graceful performance of larger airplanes. I am flying with a saito 1.00 which is enough power for almost unlimited verticals and any maneuver you can throw at it. Snaps execute like a dream. Knife edges are easy as long as you want, with no tuck or roll coupling. Regarding the wings they are a bit more time consuming to install at the field than a tube design, but it is easy enough after a few times. The left and right wing halves are bolted together using extensions of the main spars, and to be fair this is the conventional method in full size airplanes. The tube method is never used in a full sized aerobatic airplane for structural reasons.

Instructions are not the best and assume that you know the basics of putting an ARF together. Also the wheel pants are a pain.

Overall a great airplane at a great price. Highly recommended!

I have a Vectorflight Edge that I've been flying for almost a year. It has hundreds of flights including two today. Unusual for January in Idaho!!! I have a strip at my house so can fly every day when weather allows. The edge is a great flying plane. Does nice blenders, inverted and upright flat spins, lomsevacks (forgive my spelling) that end up in knife edge spin if you hold it past three rotations. Slows down and lands nice. My strip is only 150ft. long so I need an airplane that lands pretty slow. Will buy a spare, one of these days.

ekir,

I have just finished building the VF Edge 540. You can read my build report here:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Vect...2480377/tm.htm

The VF planes are very solidly constructed. I thoroughly enjoyed assembling mine. As stated earlier, the instructions are not as detailed as others, but more than adequate to complete the plane providing you have some reasonable time building ARF's. They are fairly conventional in design with the exception of the wing on the Edge 540. The main joiners are a tight fit. But if you take the time to dry fit everything before final epoxy, you will end up with a wing that is as straight as an arrow and very rigid.

The only significant weak area is in the wheelpants. VF uses a very sturdy plastic for the cowl, belly pan, and canopy, but the wheelpants are fairly flimsy. This was the only real weak spot that I encountered in an otherwise oustanding ARF.

For the price, you cannot go wrong. VF's customer service is also the best that I have ever dealt with in this industry. They bend over backwards to accomodate each and every customer. They usually respond to e-mails within a few hours. Try for yourself. Send them an e-mail ([email protected]) inquiring about their planes and you will see how fast they are to answer your questions.

I highly recommend any of their planes.

EZ2bgman wrote an excellent report on the edge, and I would also like to recommend that you take a look at it, if you are interested in the VectorFlight Edge. Very informative report.
