Wow! I've been out of the loop. Summer is over and my second Big Boy is still in one piece. I'm going to switch it over to a nitro again in a few weeks. The gas just doesn't cut the mustard. This time I'll go with a OS rather than the Magnum. It was a busy summer but the first snow came early which means the wind isn't going to stop.
Has anyone come out with a Spoiler arf or kit yet?
It looks like we're loosing our flying field here in Rawlins Wyoming. The city has decided to build houses where the field is. We don't need more houses but the city council won't listen to the people. They must be democrats. The club was suppose to find a new location for the field and the city would have built a new one but they've procrastinated themselves out of a field. If there's anyone in Casper or Riverton Wyoming on this forum you'll be seeing a lot of me up there next year.

Wow Tim,
That looks misserable. I hate winter but it does allow me to fix all my crashes from the summer. We are still experiencing 80 degree weather here in Ky. but that will change soon enough. In three or four weeks it will start dropping.

Hey man it's Elk season, it should be snowing in Wyoming. What engine are you running on your JBB in that altitude? I think that it is supposed to be somewhere around 90 degrees this weekend here in Western Ky. Hot and humid!!!

I tried a ST 2600 and it flew pretty good but the deadsticks where killing me. So I tried a BCMA 26 gas. It's underpowered big time. So I just ordered yesterday an OS 1.60. Thats what the big boys are using so I'm trying it out. Temp has been in the 30s and the wind in the 90s so it might be a while a while before flying. This is my second JBB, the firts died a horrible death in a mid air. The pictures are on this forum somewhere.

tim taylor, be careful with the 160 on a big boy. we use the 160's on the spoilers and 120's on the big boys. the spoiler is built up a little to handle the bigger engine and on the big boy you may pull the engine box off if you are not very very carefull.
tim, you and barnesracing need to move down here so you can fly in the winter with us.it gets cold but not as long and we fly almost every week here all winter. it might take a gas heater in the airplane trailer to stay warm but we still fly. haha!

Randy he probably needs the 160 due to the altitude difference, it wont pull there like it does here. Tim you might be okay with a 120ax if you run a header and beer can pipe, I would think that it would still be plenty of power. The header and pipe setup does give at least 1000 more RPM. I am running a TT 120 on my spoiler right now with plenty of power. It weights around 9lb with this setup and about 9.3lb with a 160OS. You can see the header and can in some of the pics of mine and Franks. Use the extra long header and it usually doesn't need any bending.

Now ya tell me... I bought the 160 after comparing weight between the 120, 160, ST 2600 and the BCMA 26. It's the closest weight when I concider all the extras to make the BCMA run. Remember long ago when I asked what size you guys where running and you said 120's and 160s? LOL....
I'd really love to move to a better flying climate. The thought goes through my head all the time. The wind here dropped to 15 last niight at about 8pm at the airplort. it's 17 mph now and will get quicker as the day goes. The snop all melted off on Monday and the temp is back to in the 60s. I can't move until after the Presidential election. If a democrat wins I won't be able to afford to live anywhere!

If Hillary wins we are all down the drain forsure. The 160 should be fine just make sure that the firewall is strong. I usually use a homemaid washer mount for mine, it would keep the motor right up against the firewall and help on the CG.

Hi Bubba, I'am with you guys on the election next year. I am thinking of putting a pipe and can on a S.T.3000 for a differant project. anybody know if Bud. sells the screw top can on the east coast. I like the looks of it. I can find mouse cans. I think someone said to cut the pipe about six inches long. Would that hold true for the super tigre? I will need advice as I complete this plane( A 1/4 scale Sig Kavalier - Blown up to 84" wingspan. thanks for your help. Wayne M.

Wayne not sure if Bud aluminum bottles sell on east coast or not but I am sure that one of hillbillies will be happy to drank a couple for you and send a can if you need. Not sure how well the can will work on a 3000 but it is great on 120 and 160 OS engines. And a great big yes Keith miss clinton will stop RC airplane flying due to global warming and we just don't have a right to be flying anyway. Looks like it is going to be a hot but good flying week-end, I just got done charging and everything is loaded and ready for flying in the morning.

I got me a "dizzy" plane this week. An old Shoestring with an OS 35 Maxx on it!

I have to wonder now if I want to change out the gas engine for nitro. I took the JBB to Casper yesterday and couldn't get the engine to pump fuel. After manually priming it, the motor started. This particular BCMA 26 has alway run poorly and been hard to start. The first BCMA 26 that was damaged durring the first JBB crash would start after a while but was also hard to start.
Anyhow, Casper has a great motor guy (Bruce) and he happened to be at the field. We took the carb off the motor and found that the gasket between the carb and spacer had too large of a ventury hole and had pushed into the pulse line on the spacer. This allowed the pulse line to bleed into the main venture. No pulse. We turned the gasket around and found that there was a gap between the gasket and the pulse line. There was no way the gasket would ever seal.
I brought it home and took the carb off my damaged BCMA motor and found the exact same problem but not as severe. The gasket hadn't sucked in but there was still a very fine gap allowing air through.
Bruce had suggested making a gasket with a smaller ventury hole which would allow for more gasket surface area between the carb and the spacer. I made one using my Dremmel router tools. The ventury hole is the same size as the spacer ventury hole. The original gasket had a ventury hole larger than the carb ventury which is much larger than the spacer ventury hole.
I put a little copper coat on the carb gasket and on the engine side gasket, tightened it down and let is set for a couple hours.
I went to the field and got the JBB ready to fly. I have an extra long fuel line on this engine because the fuel tank was moved under the wing. The fuel was all the way to the carb in about 6 flips. Five more flips and the motor was running. I retuned it because the idle was now way fast and saw immediate change in the way it ran to the better. I put the plane in the air and I must say neither of my BCMA 26 engines have ever run better. I landed and richened up a little more and tried again. It still won't hover but I'm now very pleased with the way the motor runs.
I think I need to experament with the props and do a little more tuning but I might save the OS 1.6 engine I ordered for the Balsa Nova. The wind came up so I only got the two flights. I'll wait a while and do some more flying before I make a final decision. It might never hover with the BCMA but I like just putting around.
Please don't tell Clinton what I did, she'll want to start an investigation.

Meant to say wait till the Wabbit Hunter sees that he is back. The chase will be on again.
