After tonight I can honestly say I have seen the worst arf ever!!
This poor sucker comes to my field this afternoon with a V-mar Apache-II trainer with the gms .47 combo from richmond rc.
First off the design of the apache is ridiculous!!!!
The stab and vertical fin are held on by screws. I was asked to check this over for him. I grabbed the tail feathers and they moved at least 1/4 inch..YIKES!! How can that stay trimmed? IT CAN'T..
Then the landing gear is some type of plastic crap, and the wing is also bolted together with screws.. The clevises are actually funny to look at.. hehe they looked as if somebody made them with a chunk of plastic and a pocketknife.. The wheels were the shape of a sanded down stop sign.
I told him it was total garbage and of course he got offended by that.. He asked me for my opinion and I gave it to him straight up.
He totally disregarded my advice and insisted it would be fine to fly .. A typical know it all.. So i said ok take her up like a man..
He starts this thing up , taxis down the field and gets her up.
The thing cannot be trimmed properly. It needs trimming every few laps around the field.
So anyways he's getting ready to bring it in and he's coming really close to the weeds so i yell out PULL BACK!! PULL BACK!! PULL BACK!! but he didn't listen. His ears must be mounted on the sides of his head for ornamental purposes.
The plane hits the weeds and comes bouncing in ripping off the landing gear, the bottom of the fuse and breaking the landing gear. anyways I go over to the wreck and check it out.
I have never seen wood like this in a arf before. It is so bad that I would rather use driftwood that you find at the beach. The landing gear block was 1/8 thick it looked like and the landing gear was held on with SMALL self tapping screws.. sheesh
This thing literally fell apart from a gentle bump with the weeds.
Any of you who are considering this arf be carefull.... it's a real basket case...
