H9 Miss America CG
HEY ALL! IM READY TO FLY THIS BEAUTIFUL BIRD, AND THE MANUAL SAYS TO BALANCE AT 4 3/4" BEHIND THE LEADING EDGE. NOW WHAT IM CONFUSED ABOUT IS WHAT THEY ARE CALLING THE LEADING EDGE, BECAUSE THE LEADING EDGE AT THE FUSE. ANGLES BACK ABOUT 3" AND THEN STRAIGHTENS OUT TO THE THE END OF THE WING. NORMALLY I WOULD BALANCE AT THE FUSE, BUT THIS SWEEP BACK ANGLE HAS ME CONFUSED! WHERE HAVE YOU MISS AMERICA PILOTS BALANCED YOUR BIRD AT?
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! TF

RE: H9 Miss America CG
For those of you who have more than a little interest in the planes you fly, the first Miss America was owned, flown and raced by Howie Keefe. I used to run a flight school at the Santa Monica Airport in 64 and 65 and Howie came in from time to time for fuel, sometimes in his SNJ and others in the 51. I was lucky enough to get a ride in both-- sat on a small box behind him in the 51. Big thrill. He is a fine gentleman and great flyer, and has a wonderul book out called Galloping on Wings. Very readeable. May be available through Amazon.

RE: H9 Miss America CG
The real Miss America is based at the "The Service Center Fixed Base Operator" at Wiley Post Airport Okla City.
If you go to the counter on a slow day they might be nice enough to escort you threw the hanger and let you look at her.
The main thing is to ask for an escort because of security these days at controlled airports.
He has several warbird projects in the works and he has a tug painted the same as the America.

No biggie.
If anyone makes it out to the hangar take some good pictures of the sponsor markings. I want to make some and dress it up so it looks better than the other 3 that showed up at our field the week after I bought mine. (though they all oggle the keleo exhaust manifold)
By the way, MinnFlyer did a great review of MA its in the magizine section of RCU and R/C Report did one of the cover of last months issue.
