Im getting ready to start building my GP Pitts arf, and was wondering if there is a better tail wheel assy that anyone has used on there's other than the stock unit? Any advise would be greatly appriciated!

Just curious...is there something wrong with the GP tailwheel? I've got a 1.20 size Sig Heavy duty tail wheel assembly, but haven't flown with it yet.

ed42d-RCU, the GP tail wheel assy has another link that works off the rudder servo, along with the the rod to the rudder. its just a extra piece of wire that doesnt need to be hanging out there on the side. Im sure it works fine though! And bubbagates thanks for the info on the Sig tail wheel assy!!!

I put the Sullivan tailwheel unit on my GP Pitts, and it's a whole lot simpler. Works fine too.

NP... I am just not to fond of a tailwheel that uses a solid wire from the rudder to the tailwheel. That puts a lot of extra load on the server from the tailwheel bouncing around while taxing on a grass strip.

If you fly off of asphalt then the GP tailwheel will be fine

I have about 100 flights on my Pitts from a grass field with the stock tail wheel and orginal rudder servo. Its still working.

I use the Sullivan tail wheels on all my tail draggers including my GP Struka 60. They are inexpensive and a good design. On some planes that havea narrow fuselage at the tail I mount the tail wheel bracket on to a small piece of aircraft ply the same shape as the bracket with the 4-40 blind nuts in the ply. Then glue the aircraft ply to the underside of the fuselage. Makes installing very easy. [8D]

I do agree that they hold up well on the stock setup, but I'm kinda funny about putting undue loads on my servos. I beat my servos up pretty good in normal use

BTW the Sullivan is a normal looking round spring (coil) not a leaf type. Both will work well for your plane.

Klett!! I don't know if they still make them, I'm sure if you look around you could find one.

I use a piece of fuel tubing to keep the wires together. Once in awhile I check and adjust if needed. Just push or pull.
I'm using Hitec 605's in the rear. I am able to break anything I touch but so far the servos are working great.
