the hinges on my elevators and rudder are held on by thin ca. the instructions say to do so. how do you guys think this will hold up to hard 3-d flying? what about over all? any of you have any experience with the airwild edge 540 35%? im sure it will fly great, should hold up.... let me know what ya'll think

Properly installed CA hinges are very sturdy. Minnflyer and others have posted good instructions on what makes a good installation.

Improperly installed CA hinges will fail pretty quick, and there are several ways to improperly install them. Like leaving no clearance, then putting in so much throw that full deflection pulls the hinges.

My experience with CA hinges has been great. They install fast, and hold quite well. Others have posted bad experiences, and I expect some of them will chime in here. Do your own testing on the side, with spare balsa, if you have any doubts, or stick with what you know best.

As Scar pointed out, " there are several ways to improperly install them". I tried some and wasn't happy with the results. I checked with other flyers at our field and there were more failures than successes. Now the only ones I use have the steel pin between the 2 plastic halves and I also use round tooth picks and epoxy to pin them. I have never had a failure and you can get them in different sizes to match the plane. [8D]

fastsky, how do you like your P-47? have you gotten it yet?

Installing the CA hinges the correct way and sealing BOTH SIDES of the surface will give a very durable hinge that you won't need to worry about.

it isnt ca hinges... it is some really sturdy composite hinges that are held together on the moving side by a piano wire running through them, and on the stab side they go into a wood slot with ca holding them there.........

I have this plane and know several others also flying it. I've had no problems and have never heard of anyone having problems with the hinges. Just install them the way AirWild says to. A Dremel w/ a very small bit and a router attachment works great - call Jerry to get more details.

awesome! how much does yours weigh? what engine are you using? how does it fly? i have a 3w 106 new! i dont know weight or how it flies......

I have a DA100 in mine. It weighs about 29 lbs. and is the best flying plane I have ever owned. It can do anything and will just about land itself if you setup your approach correctly. One of the guys I fly with was so impressed with it that he went and bought one for himself.
