Jaybo,
I actually do not own one but have flown several with students and I will say they fly well. Very stable and can do nice aerobatics when you are ready. Plus the price is right.
I have not seen the new manual, but the older ones do not tell you to epoxy the wing center joint at the root ribs but to only epoxy the joiner into the wings. Although it looks as though you already have the wing together, I will ask if you did epoxy the joint at the ribs.
We had one that only did the joiner and while I was training him he got inverted and became disoriented, I took control and righted the plane only to have the wings fold up. Upon inspection we noticed no epoxy on the ribs at the joint. After looking through his manual it did not show or explain to do this. After the crash and inspection we walked to the other end of the field to the LHS and bought another and built it right then and there. After the epoxy had a chance to harden overnight we flew the heck out of it.
The next one we checked over had the same issue. We got a hold of some wide carbon tape and trimmed the covering back and epoxied the tape on. That plane has had the heck flown out of it and has stood up well.
We had another student misjudge his landing and very calmly plant it into the top of a tree. After we got it down only the covering needed repair. This plane also still fies do this day.
All of these were last years model when they were mainly yellow and not the blue color they are now
All in all a very good plane which can take some abuse

Thanks for your input. I did epoxy the wing center. The instructions are not very detailed at all. I did alot of reading before putting it together. I also have a friend who is teaching me to fly. He also gave me building pointers.

I instructed 2 students with the Mach I last year with the same engine. The Four Stroke in my opinion is the perfect match for this plane. The plane required no trim for it's maiden. I was pleased as punch with it's ability to train students. Comes in true and straight for landings. You wil learn very quickly with this plane. No bad tendencies that I saw. Have fun.

I just flew my first, second edition Mach 1 last week with a new OS 46-AX and as usual one of the best trainers I've flown and owned. (I instruct too) Lost the first edition Mach 1 last month when it took a bad bounce off a snow bank while doing T&G's and when the floats came off during the cartwheel they took the bottom of the fuse with them.
The plane had about a hundred flights on it anyway and was showing it's age, being a cheap trainer I tend to throw them around pretty hard, thats all the fun, no stress and low cost.

The Mach I is an outstanding trainer. I have the yellow version and flew it with an OS 40 LA. I was amazed at what a great combination that was. The only downside to this kit is the lack of good construction information. I don't recommend it to a newbie without some experienced help. I recently put in a new Super Tiger G40 as a break in test bed, and while the ST has noticeably more power, I think I prefer the 40 LA as a better match up. In any event, this is a terrific trainer and fun sport plane. The long tail moment makes for smooth flying and will help to build the habit of smooth flying when you move to other models. There are other good trainers out there, but none better.
