Don't get TOO in love with the plane,we had a guy with one at our field and on approach the horizontal stab broke right off at the fuse, had about 4 flights on it.[X(]
It may have just been a bad stab though.
Isn't it great when you find the "right"plane though..it just makes flying soooo much more fun!

most of these problems with the stabs are on the 40 size and most are because they want a lot of throw so they set it up with a bad mechanical advantage setup on the linkage and the stabs , and or elevators just explode. ive had two 60 size and neither has had any bad symtoms of this sort, and i fly the pants off it. ( but things can happen!!!).

CA hinges pose a lot of resistance especially if you have mega throws like 60 deg. Also, the adjoining edges aren't double-beveled to allow 60 deg of throw. So if large throws are forced without a resistance-free joint, the servo will push the stab apart.
I have switched mine to point hinges for this reason.

you are very right sean, i forgot to mention ive had two failures with ca hinges on my ucds so i now use dubro pinned hinges. i believe they will last the life of the plane. and i will do a worthy test!!!

Three weeks ago I was flying at half throttle upwind with the UCD-.40 Saito-72. Right as I was overhead I heard the horizontal tail snap ,,, saw the flutter and prepared to say goodbye to my bird. But to my amazement I was able to pull into a clumsy knife edge and by using the rudder as an elevator I acually brought the plane around into final just off the paved runway . As I got about a foot or so from the ground I used aileron and got gear down position again before letting her fall the last 12 inches.
Only damage was a sheared off gear and belly pan. Didn't even break the prop. What a forgiving plane !!!
I called Tower Hobbies and they instructed me to remove all my hardware and send the fuse back to them for a complete and free replacement. My wing was undamaged so I just needed the fuse.
Now before you think to yourselves ,,, "either this guy is a great RC pilot?? Or a liar???" All I can say is I didn't believe it myself .
I've never seen a plane that could keep flying with only one horizontal stab.
Solution ? Spend the $10.00 and install some tail wire bracing .
