Any Modeltech P47 vids???

I finished my Modeltech P-47 a couple of weeks ago, waiting for a good weather day to maiden. I took these pictures as I was finishing up the build. Yours will be a little different than mine. Mine is the "old" version (bought last year). There are some changes to the wing fairings and covering on the newer models. My cowl matches the color of the fuselage much better than these pictures suggest. I think there is a weird reflection from the camera flash that makes them look quite different.

@gnirwin: Your Model Tech P-47 turned out really nice!
I also have an older version that I started last year. Put countless hours into building and detailing and then had to put it away unfinished due to circumstances. Went back to look at it a few months later and was shocked to find the covering that I had spent hours massaging and tightening up to perfection had sagged and wrinkled again! I'm very discouraged. I had put panel lines on all the surfaces and weathered it with an airbrush and now the covering is wrinkled and crappy looking again. I think the only resort is to strip it and start all over again. I bought mine a year ago and started assembly this past fall, put the plane aside for a couple of months and when i got back to it my covering was wrinkled and sagging where I had previously shrank it and ironed it. I think I will fly mine this coming summer and recover mine next winter, maybe go with a green color scheme. I think the new ones have a higher quality of covering than the older ones.

Can someone tell me the difference between the old version and the new? I just bought one, well, received one, this past Christmas and it appears to be the old one (it has the plastic fairings you have to cut out and glue on, and it has the same covering as my much older Model Tech P-51). Thanks!

I think you've got it just perfect. From what I understand the older version had some poor covering and the wing farings needed to be applied. I just finished building mine and from what I can tell the covering looks good and the fairings came pre-attached.

Hello,
My advice to deal with wrinkled coverings is to RECOVER the airplane BEFORE you spent alot of time painting and detailing. I completely strip the covering on my O-1 Bird Dog and recover with Ultracote. I can't take a chance on my foundation goes "bezzerk" on me. Dai Phan

Hi Gang!
I'm currently woprking on my P47 too. Maiden is still some time off though because we still have about half a meter of snow here in Austria.
My covering was also not worth much so my P47 is being recovered... with Aluminium

I have scrapped the retracts that came with the kit because they won't last two landings on our grass strip.
I am still trying to figure out a way to mount the 120 Thunder Tiger in there.
Take a look...
best regards,
Rev

Hi Reverend,
I like what you are doing with your Jug. I am planning on picking up one of these in the near future and I may do the aluminum thing myself. Post some more pics when your are done.
BTW, my mother and brother are from Austria (Styre) I was born here in good old New Jersey. My Dad was in the US 3rd Army in WWII, met my mother there and here I am![8D]
