Hello all,
I tried posting this once and it didn't show up, sorry if it doubles. I have a Magic Extra that I completed and test flew at the end of last season. I took it yesterday when we got a lucky weather day and I just wasn't satisfied with the thrust performance. This is my first time setting up a plane like this so I was interested in input on prop selection, the plane is very light and performs great, unlimitied vertical and hover. I have an OS .46 up front, runs great, with a 10X6 asp prop. It just feels like the prop takes a while to spool up and down. Is there a better prop or do I just need to get used to this one? Thanks!

Stan,
I and a number of others that have had this plane with the same motor use 12.25x 3.75 APC props. For such a little plane this combo really turns up the fun dial. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with stangevil29, that prop with give you tons of thrust but not allot of speed and provides great prop breaking coming into land.
If good all around pull is what you are after try an APC 11X6 or for even more speed the APC 11X7 but in the case of the 11X7 slowing down will be harder to do.
In any case APC props are know to be extremely effcient but slightly heavier than some of the others out there. Zinger and MAS are somewhat noisy and definitley inefficent
I had a MAS 16X6 on a CG Ultimate Bipe usig the YS110. I could go across the field at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle and punch it to full throttle and take the propeller tips supersonic and the plane would all but stop in the air and just make a ton of noise because it would lose all bite. I then screwed on an APC 16X6 and the plane would just leap forward like it had rockets attached.
Just my $.02 worth

10 x 6 on a Magic Extra??!!! NO way dude ... Most people go for the APC 12.25 x 3.75 but you can try the APC11x5, the 11x5 is brilliant. The engine spools up faster and you get higher revs for me that gives me better throttle control for a prop hang. I tried both props out on my TT Spirit 3D with a TT46 and I found the APC 11x5 more fun. Test both props out

Forgot to tell you ... PLEASE reinforce the wing saddle area, that part of the fuse is thin and will break if you have hard landings. That is the plane's weakest point. Try to use some 1/32 ply perhaps. Have fun with the plane, if you kill her then go for the TT Spirit 3D ... it flies much better than the Magic Extra! Happy Hunting!!!
