Hi,
I'm currently building the Seagull Extra 300L, and wants to know how well it flys?
I'm using a OS 46LA, but will be upgrading this to a 46AX in the near future.

I had one with a 4 stroke .91 on it. It flew great until the firewall came loose while it was low and slow. The engine died causing it to stall resulting in both spars in one wing broke. The firewall was hot glued in. Better check yours. Other than that I liked it.

I think a 46 size engine will be to small.
I have the 540 and it has a 4 stroke .91 and it still could use a little more power.
If I had my choice I would have gone with a Saito 100 (reluctantly), only because Magnum doesn't make a 100.
Seagull makes a good plane for the price, I really like flying mine and it looks soooo nice too!

I had one with a TT 61 and it was an awesome combo (dumb thumbed it in after about 100 flights, dam I miss that plane). I highly doubt a 46 will have the jam to fly it will. When you get a decent engine for it toss out the hardware that came with the kit and buy some good quality dubro stuff, you'r gunna need it. I had a buddy with this same plane and a 75 for power. The elevator horn busted in flight and it resulted in the longest trail of balsa and parts I have ever seen.

I had an OS91 Surpass turning a 12X10 APC and loved it. A 46LA or any 46 size engine just is not going to have the power you need for this plane. A 60 size 2 stroke aor a 90 sized 4 stroke is more what you need
I got stupid with mine by getting to close to a stand of tress and we all know about those plane eating trees [X(]

I had a Edge 540 and it was a piece of carp. Had a Saito 100 on it and I did a blender and the motor blew right off the front. I lost everything but 2 serovs and the switch. Sell it.

As with any lower priced ARF you will need to double check a few things like glue joints, firewalls, etc...I did pin my firewall on my Extra as I noticed it seemed pretty weak and also beefed the landing gear block area. I had well over 25+ flights and was just really starting to wring it out when it met it's demise.
I also did replace all of the stock control rods with Gold'n rods as the stock rods seemed very weak, read that as flexible.
Now I know there will be those out there that will say, this is an ARF and you should not have to do things like that. Well, I have seen higher priced ARF's from larger named companies that needed much more than that and without naming it mine required a complete rebuild of the right wing after finding all of the ribs cracked and there was a backlog of wings and the replacements were coming in damaged.
I have seen the opposite. You spend a little and get extremely great quality and customer service, although the selection is somewhat limited.
Just go over it pretty good, strengthen and brace anything that even remotely looks marginal and you will have a very good flying plane.
Oh...sorry I did not know that was a 40 sized plane. The pic of the engine on it made it look like a 60 size
