I have a .61 super tigre 2 stroke that i would like to install on my old Star Fire 40 is it possible to get a 40-50 size motor mount that will fit this engine? i have a .91 motor mount but looks like it might add to much wieght. i know i will have to balance it add wieght in the back of the turtle deck. do u think this will add way too much stress on the airframe? causing it to explode in the air? ecpecially the wing? this is an arf version from hobbico i hate to tear it apart to modifiy the wing as i just had recovered it due to a crash from an engine failure. any tips thanks

In all honesty I do not think its worth it to get that plane up with such a big engine. Its no pylon racer and neither is it a 3D plane. The wing loading will go up ... I tried things like that before for a sport plane and the benefits were almost marginal.

The Starfire flys really well and is a fast flyer with a 46. You won't gain anything by going to a 61. You would also have to go a bigger fuel tank to get a 10 minute flight out of it with a 61 which again adds more weight. Better to stick to something smaller. [8D]

Stick with a 46/48 or even 52 2C engine. This is a pattern style sport plane, not a pylon racer. You will get the most out of it by learning to fly pattern etc and not trying to break the 100 mph barrier. If you have a 48 try something like an APC 11x7 or perhaps a 12x5 if you want more torque.

only problem is i have only a .40 size o.s. bb i think its bb. i hate to spend over 100 bux on a new engine cant seem to get a used one. the old russian mds carb. is a piece of sh*t! other than that its a powerfull little engine. if i could get some kind of .48 carb. i could just slap it on and itll run better. Would a .40 size be too underpowered?

another que. if i happen to buy a new tower hobbies os .46 axbb engine can u still fly it with the required 10X6 apc prop? and how many tanks of the 5% 20% fuel would it need to go through? i have 10 and 18 percent still in a gallon size and need to know what to do about it? is it safe to use it up after the break in period? i dont know too much about break ins if you can help me on that thanks!

Crazy ... the SF can fly with the OS40 for sure, but its easy flying around and nothing spectacular. If money is an issue then go for something cheap and very reliable, take the MVVS49, will run on 0% - 5% nitro and does not like or need high nitro content. You can run a 10x6 with a 46 sized engine but it might be over revving it. Here in Malaysia its hot and humid so we run 10x6 on our 46 engines. For the SF get an 11x6 you will enjoy the torque, better climb rate.
10% - 18% is pretty standard for use with a TT46/OS46/OS50 etc etc etc. Only the 'funny' engines MVVS/ROSSI/MOKI etc do not really like high nitro content. They were made to perform on low to nil nitro.
Breaking in a big issue, for the ABC ABN engines I will just run it slightly rich for about 1-2 tanks, not so rich till its blubbering. Then I fly it for a couple of tanks on a slighty rich, maybe about 750 RPM less than peak RPM. Please get someone to assist in running in if you are not sure.
Remember ... its not a toy.
