Pictures cowling WM Super sport 40S
Hi,
I'm putting together a World Models Super Sports 40S with an OS 46AX engine.
Does anybody have a similar setup ? If yes, I like to see some pictures of the cowling with this particular engine.
It's my first ARF with a cowling, and I'm not too confident on cutting it.
Other tips on this specific ARF more than welcome.
Thanks for your usual help....,
Biggles[8D]

RE: Pictures cowling WM Super sport 40S
ALL WM Super Sport 40 Owners...!!! Please not all together....
I'm specifically interested in how much of the engine (OS46) is visible on the topsite of the cowling. Is the Carburator and the whole cylinder visible?
Maybe it sounds stupid, but on the box, it shows a fully covered engine.
Also, is it OK to fly it without cowling the first flights to see and change how much engine offset is needed....? This to avoid making wrong cuts in the cowling.
Any guidline for the offset... Should it be right hand side, below ?
The instruction booklet does not give any info.
Thanks again,
Biggles
PS: If you prefer, you can also send me a PM on [email protected]

Everyone is off flying I guess I have two of these but they have Irvine .53's in them... These fly like a trainer and you can still practice airobatics with them... My suggestion.... Mount the engine upright and go with it.. Keep it simple ... The Irvine's will stick out no matter how I mount them so I expect the OS will too... As for offset I did not need to add any... It has been my experiance with the several WM planes I have the offset if needed is already built into them.. Sure you can fly with the cowl off. I usually dowhen I am breaking in an engine in the air... Trim sometimes changes when you put it back on though... Did you get the clear plastic "dummy" cowl to lay out the cuts etc with ?... Use this to figure out your holes etc. When happy slide it over the real cowl, mark the spots and cut away... Works pretty good.. On mine I also split the cowl behind the hole for the cylinder... That way I can just spread it apart and slide it on... No need to remove the exaust etc...
Hope this helps

IronCross:
Thanks very much. That gives me a good first impression. Guess the OS will be similar.
What kind of fueling system do you use...? Refuelling valve, fuel dot ?
Any OS guys there with a WM Super Sport 40 ?
Regards,
Biggles

I had a super sports 40 but it was the older, non cowled version. I do have a T-34, with an OS .46 FX engine. I mounted it upright, and yes the whole of the cylinder and most of teh carburetor stick out. I understand your hesitation in cutting up the cowl, WM does make some nice ones. But take your time, start small and work your way bigger, and it will work out fine.

I use the Dubro refuleler valve... It apperars to be the same as the Great Planes one except they sell "rebuild" kits for them... Some guys swear at them some by them... I have never had any problem with them... My plane is a couple of years old.. When I bought it they had a very soft nose gear in them... I had to rebend it after every landing (no they weren't that hard ) it seemed.
You might want to check yours.. Don't know if they have changed that by now or not... I put a Faults (Tower) on mine and have had
no problem since... These are really nice flying planes... Only thing I don't like is I put the two stroke in it... Wish I had put a 4s in it..
