Has anyone compared the Great Planes J-3 verses the Thunder Tiger J-3? They are both 81 inch cubs.
Tower sells the GP for $199.99 and the TT for $174.99.
What is the difference? Which ARF is a better kit and which flyes better?
Any known problems with the kits?
Thanks,
Joe

Joe, The GP 81" fabric covered J3 is discontinued. I found one in MD by calling the various shops from ad's in the mag"s. Looks ok so far but haven't started on build yet. Not familiar with the Thunder Tiger.

I agree...forgot how many Cub's Iv'e had, perhaps 10, and sold most. Anything about this GP 81" that you recall I should be aware of? I have already bought a new tail wheel and intend to purchase the Willam Wallace scale type landing gear.

Is the TT Cub really covered in Chinakote? I would check that, they might have improved it.
I say this just because TT had a Decathlon that I understand was... mediocre, but they recently redesigned it from the ground up, and the new one is incredible quality. I wouldn't be surprised if they redesigned the Cub also.
Actually, I was looking at one at Toledo, and it looked pretty decent, but I didn't check it over thoroughly.
There is also the option of the Hangar9 Cub which I have, and it's a pretty decent airplane. Flies really well, well built, MonoKote covering. Scale appearance is pretty good, though the wing struts are useless.

Guys my TT Cub is covered in Ultracote - mind you I had to do a bit of ironing as covering was not so great but otherwise it's a great flyer - I put in an ASP 61 4FS and fly half throttle. Ground handling is still an issue but othewise looks great in the sky

TT Cub has best scale outline as compared with Great Planes and H9. Covering is Ultracoat. More than enough power with an OS 70 FS turning a 13-5 MA prop. Flies like a Cub and ground handles well. Recommend a 52 to 56 FS engine as best match. Beaware that like any Cub if the airspeed gets too low at high angle of attack it will snap roll. So keep the nose down on final approach and level out just before touch down. Wheel landings are preferred.
