Just picked one up at the LHS for $140 looks really good for the price ( this may have been discussed a while back but if it was I missed it)
This thing is big they say 40-46 2strk I think may be a little underpowered with a 40 over 7Lbs may go my irvine 53 or saito 72
thoughts?? also may change the rods over to 4/40 so I can use decent clevises and go pull pull on the rudder very nice quality
wood good civering perfect but will go over joints with some epoxy to play it safe. There most be a bunch out there any negatives
or must does ?? martin( Correction on post title seagull not world models)

Martin, this s an outstanding little plane. I reviewed one for RCU magazine Last summer. I used an OS 70 and found it to be an ideal combo

Thanks mike found the review very helpful I subscribe to flY RC surprised I missed it martin
by the way surpised at thickness of firewall looks like an Abrams tank may try the irvine 53 and have a in cowl BCM muffler for it
depends on cowl fit
Also time for a reorder to micro fastners love those button head screws for the servo covers cowl mounting etc
Whats your thoughts on Gorilla glue for the wing joining did use on some smaller wings worked great and gap filling?

Does yours have an incredible amount of roll coupling with the rudder? I maidened mine yesterday. I enjoyed flying it but was surprised when I came in for a landing and put in a little rudder to correct for the crosswind. Fortunately, I have a Saito 82 in 'er so there was enough power to easily abort and go around.

Hey, Skychaser
I have a Saito .82 mounted on my Decatlhlon but have not flown it yet. I still havent mounted the cowl and I'm looking for the best way to run the muffler. I was thinking about the "built in " hole in the fire that exits the bottom of fuse, but, I would need to extend the muffler someway. ? I wonder if the standard flexible hose
would work ok for a 4 stroke engine/
How did you mount and run your .82?
thanks, Bill
Thanks, Bill

I have this plane, I mounted a YS63 inverted; I got a 75 degree exhaust elbow and matching muffler; not sure from where; the Muffler exits straight down out the bottom; the angle of the exhaust port allows this 75 degree elbow to make the muffler hang straight down at 90 degrees; several elbows at different degrees are offered from this retailer; it's possible the thread is the same as Saito's; if you check the other Decathlon forums the retailer is listed in the discussion threads.

dasintex,
Mine engine is mounted at 90 degrees. The carb was turned around to put the needle valve on top. The muffler uses the standard straight pipe and exits the cowl on the right side. The cowl is very hard to mount and remove in this configuration. If I were to do it over again I would mount the engine inverted and put the muffler out the bottom. Or, better yet, find some way to replace the standard muffler with a flex pipe or pitts.

Thanks for the info. I had my rates set up like my Edge and Somethin' Extra: Lots of throw, lots of expo. I have dropped the throws to about 50% and I'll see if it keeps me from rolling with the rudder.
