I recently bought a balsa nova 1.2 arf. I am having trouble deciding on what enging to run. I have 4 choices and am looking for suggestions. I currently have a super tiger 2500, OS 1.6, OS 1.08 and a saito 1.2 four stroke. What would be best all around engine. I do not fly much 3d but dont want to under power it either. I also dont want to put too much weight in the back.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

2nd on the 1.60. I had one (kit built) with a GMS 1.20. It flew pretty good, but could have used a little more power. It's a sweet flyer.

Thanks guys, I am leaning towards the os 1.60. What about weight? Do you thing it will be too front heavy? The only good thing is the OS does not feel that heavy. My saito 1.20 feels heavier and the supertiger is very heavy.

The OS 160 is the best engine out of the 4 that I have run in the BN. If you want a little more action, move the elevator hinge line forward about 2.5 inches. Mine weighs 11.5# with the OS. It is by FAR my favorite plane!!!!!!!!!! Dale

I'll chime in late by saying that I flew my buddy's with the O.S. 1.60 the other day and it was darn near perfect for this plane. I'm getting ready to build the kit version and I've got an MDS 1.48 for it, and I'm hoping to keep the weight down lower than what the ARF is. Great flying plane. Good luck with yours.

[8D]Hey Mad,
After selling a container of these great ARF's, we have noticed a lot of different motors going on the front of them. The OS 160 is a really fine two stroke but since we here at Morris Hobbies sell the MARK line of motors we naturally tend to lean toward them. If you want some power and excitement
stick a MARK 135 on it and watch heads turn. The favorite 4-stroke seems to be Saito 150 or 180. An APC 17-6 prop works the best on this combo. The 4-stroke engines seem to just "putt" on by in knife edge really low and slow but when the throttle is shoved in things get a little wild. Snaps on take-off are a hoot especially when the plane has an 80 inch wingspan and the snap commences at about 85 or so inches of altitude! Nah.......... we're not kidding! We have also seen a few people add the rudder servo to the tail under the right side, doing away with the pull-pull on that surface. They drive the steerable tailwheel on the bottom of a long servo arm and the hole just above that is the one that is attached to the rudder.
We have been asked if gassers are a good choice for the BALSA NOVA 120. Let's see......... RCS 180, G-23, G-26, ZDZ 40, MVVS 160, MARK 180. All of these have been flown successfully. Weight is not a problem as long as you balance correctly. (We're talking a lot of square inches and a good thick airfoil on this plane so a little common sense will allow for some great flying characteristics.) Look at morrishobbies.com and check out the BALSA NOVA 120. Call me at (281) 364-8011 or the toll free number on the website for tips ad info.

We make a glass-filled nylon landing gear that was literally "made" for this plane! P/N TPP10.

I've been thinking of buying one of these planes. I have a YS120 super charged I was thinking of putting on it. Any thoughts on how it should do?

Thanks everyone.
Just got home from a trip to Disney with the family, so I have not started my plane yet. I will start this week and have to make my decision on motor soon. I am now interested in the gasser options you mentioThanks everyone.

Hi Guys, I just started flying large planes with Gas motors. I currently have a 1/4 scale Hanger 9 Super Cub with a G23. I love gas and I'm in the process of getting rid of all my glow stuff (but I still love my electrics). I'm in the market for a large fun fly plane. I've discovered that there aren't many large planes in this category (75 to 85 inch wingspan). I think the big Balsa Nova is the plane I'm looking for. I want to use a G26 or similar engine. I'm looking for something that will do basic aerobatics well and land slowly. It also doesn't hurt that the Balsa Nova is a very good looking plane in the photos I've seen.
