Default DP Extra 300L - Engine Size

Hi Folks,

I would like some opinions on a gas engine for my DP 300L. However, let me first describe how I plan on flying my DP 300L.

As boring as it may sound to most, I have no interest in 3D flying and I am not interested in unlimited vertical performance. I just want to be able to fly basic aerobatic maneuvers such as loops, rolls, snaps, hammerheads, and spins etc. I like to fly at a speed that is scale for the model being flown.

Because I am not interested in 3D or unlimited vertical performance, I am assuming I can run a much smaller gas engine than what the majority of DP 300L users are running. Can any of you recommended a light dependable, smooth running gas engine with a good power/weight ratio. My only experience with gas is with a G-23.

I have read all of the post concerning aileron flutter. I plan on installing a second aileron servo just to be safe.

Thanks

Scott

I'm running a ZDZ 40 in mine, and I have unlimited vertical. I remember someone saying that they were using a G23. Any good engine in the 2.4 range should be more than enough for what you want. Tom

I totally agree with 3Dreaming. I have the Moki 2.10 in mine. I'll probably switch to a DA or ZDZ 50 eventually for 3-D reasons, but the 40 is the way to go for you. The DP extra will lend itself to the rear induction engines too. Don't be reluctant to use them. They are smooth and reliable.

I have a ZDZ in mine and agree with the above replies. Any good 2.4 would be nice. The ZDZ is great because it is light weight. If you put a lower pitch prop on it things will really smooth out for you. Mine with a 21x8 menz is nice and smooth blowing plenty of air over the surfaces but not generating too much speed. With the 20x10 it has outstanding vertical.

I don't think the G23 would fly it the way you want though. Go with a 2.4. I think the G45 would work but its about 2 pounds heavier than the ZDZ40 if I remember right.
