Default Great Planes PT-17 Stearman

I was jsut wondering if anyone has recieved this plane yet and is either building or flying it.

I am curious as to engine, performance and that kind of stuff.

I am currently doing the Super Stearman and according to the specs both are very close to the same weight and the Super Stearman needs 18oz's of weight if using the recommended engine so I am using the Zenoah G26 to add that weight and was thinking the PT-17 version will likely be the same

I just finished up mine with a YS 91 and a six volt battery mounted over the engine and it balanced without adding any extra weight.

I would love to know this also. A YS91 is a bit more powerful than an OS91FS. I have one in a 8lb CG Ulimate and it handled it well

According to the specs, at 12lbs plus an OS91FS would be almost not enough. It would probably fly it very scale like so I would not expect gobs of extra power.

So I guess if we can talk Hellcat716 into get the AUW for us and if he has flown it yet to let us know.

It sure does look sweet

I beleive Great Planes when they say an OS 91 four stroke will power the plane, just don't expect more than scale performance. It is possible to lighten it though.

There prototype was flown with an OS 91 and they had to add 18 Oz of lead to the nose. I figure with the YS 91 and not having to add any lead to the nose the YS 91 will be adequate.

That's why I was asking. The Super Stearman powered by the OS120FS needed 18oz's so allot of people (me included) are bolting in a converted Zenoah G26 to make up for the weight. I suspected that the Pt-17 was probably very close to the same since it's specs are almost identical to the Super Stearman.

Thanks for the info and a flight report would be cool if available from someone

I have a Saito 120 in mine and with creative applications I did not add any weight. Total less than 14 pounds.
