I use the Century Jet Models set made for this plane. Looks pretty solid. $250 for complete set.

About to build my second one of these. The first had the Century Retracts and they were great. Just ordered the second set. Part number 31899. $255.
Also, I am going to upgrade and go with a Mark 1.80 gasser from Morris Hobbies driving a 3-bladed prop.
Sold my last GSP Spit to a local guy and wish I had kept it. Very nice plane. Tried to get it back but he wanted to keep it. Last one had a YS1.20 in it which was plenty, but I am done with glow.

I am having a difficult time putting in the CJ 31899's. The cylinder has a right angle air port that screws the whole insertion process. It seems as though I will have to tear out a lot of balsa to get this thing in. It has been a frustrating attempt so far. Any suggestions.
Thanks
Dean

I think you can change air fittings(nipples) from straight to L-shape and vice versa.
Straight one is made from brass and L-shape is from nylon. Try a call to CJM.

I have Robart 609HD mechanicals in mine with Unitract Oleos. The plane is 2 years old with over 150 flights and no problems with the retracts at all. Even after tearing them out twice while learning to land the damn thing. Landings are sweet now (practice, practice, practice).

The Robarts go up slowly too, making ot look quite scale like.

I went for the 609HD's as they are 85ΒΊ not 90ΒΊ. This gives a slightly wider track, making it a bit more stable on the ground.

Hope this helps

Pete

Bigk9: I am about to install a YS 120 in my CMP spit. How did it fly with that motor in it and is there anything that you learned from your build relevant to the YS that you could pass on?
