Default Sig Sukhoi Availability?

Any word from Sig about availability of their Sukhoi ARF. Have prepaid a hobby shop in Danvers MA for the kit 2 months ago. Still waiting.

Thanks.

Been told Sig was switching manufacturers and had none to ship. Status at Tower Hobbies says "ON ORDER". Maybe what's at your local hobbie shop is the remainder of Sig's previous run.

Default Sig Sukhoi Availability?

The ones that are availiable in hobby shops currently are the first run kits. Some may have faulty wings. Only way to tell is to remove the covering from the wing. Sig is standing behind these ARF's though. I have been waiting on a replacement wing for my SU31 for three months now. Last word I had from Mike at Sig was they expected the new run of the ARF's in any day. This time they will be manufactured by Sig's usual ARF builder.

I have repaired my wing and it s flying fine, but I still want a new wing.

I got a Sig Extra 300XS for all the trouble I had with my SU31. I am taking no chances with this plane. I will replace all the supplied hardware with heavier duty stuff. I am also glassing the wing center section.

Not to start a war but how many wings have you seen break in the middle. It's a good idea to glass the center section for extra security but the wing will most likely break 6" to 8" out past the center section where most of the force is. Good Luck with that extra they are a great flying plane.

Default Reply From Sig

Just got the following reply from Sig:

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your note. We had expected to have Sukhoi SU31 ARF airplanes available this month, but due to the dock workers strike in California, our shipment has been delayed. At the present time, we are uncertain as to the exact delivery date. Much is dependent on the time
it takes to catch up from the back log caused by the work stoppage. We sincerely regret this delay, and are doing everything in our power to
get the Sukhoi to the states as quickly as possible.

Best regards,

Does the Sukhoi have a one piece or two piece wing?

I've been flying my Sukhoi for the past year. It's a one piece wing with about 1150 sq's. When I take my wing out, it's like a surf board.

As a matter of fact, I have seen a wing joint failure in several ARF's. Sig has determined (at least this is what they told me) that wing failure in the SU31 ARF is due to wing sheeting being too soft and allowing flexing at or near the wing joint. The failure actually occurs at the inboard corner of the aileron on the wing. The flexing allows flutter to develope and from there it progresses until failure. The application of glass cloth at the wing joint has a dual function. Not only does it substantially strengthen the joint, it also hardens the wing sheeting past the joint to prevent or minimize flexing. I agree with your contention that the wing will probably break 6" to 8" past the joint. The glassing greatly minimizes this possibility.

Default sukhoi arrival

FYI, Just talked to Sigs sales and the new Sukhoi is hitting the boats for shipping the 1st week of Jan 2003. In other words, Sigs has a new manufacture that can build the main wing to there spec. and structural integrity. The plane will look the same as the old model.

I don't doubt what Sig has told you, but I have been getting the same story for the past six months on this plane. I will believe it when I see it.

Called Sig several month ago about wing failure problems and requested that they send me a new wing. I got home yesterday and low and behold there was a package on my porch. A new wing. Bravo for Sig. Had no idea it was coming.
So maybe the new shipment has arrived from the new manufacture.
