Man below zero temps aren't conducive for flying RC planes…or anything else I like to do outside. Ha, ha I did get some 2014 flights in already tho.

And get this, I picked up a new Mustang PTS package for 200 bucks…I'm back in the PTS game baby! I put the Spektrum on ebay already...I'm gonna keep the plane I'm anxious to fly her now that I have some experience. Maybe the landing gear blocks will hold up on this one (doubtful ha, ha).

So I have plenty of 2 blade props, a spinner I believe, just need some servos for the flaps. Woo hoo!!!

which Mustang did you get ? The Mach 1 or Mach 2 . In either case , you got a good deal . I think I've re glued or replaced the landing blocks on every one I've owned and I think I've had about 5 of these, three of which are still in one piece . Good luck >>> put some pics on here, love to see it

Tom, it's a red one which is what I had before. Is Mkii Mach 2? Or version ii? I'll post some pics of her all wrapped in plastic to bring back some memories for y'all. Ha, ha

BTW, do you have an OS 55ax? When I had my first PTS the Evo would never run right so I bought a 55 that never made it to the Mustang (or the Mustang never made it to the 55ax). However I have it on a Great Planes Escapade now and it's a great engine...not one dead stick in prob 50 flights. The Evo dead sticked 7-8 times before the first PTS died. It was defective tho HH replaced the entire thing and the new one runs like a top (I gave it to my father-in-law).

We're getting the heaviest snow so far this year right now (about noon on 1/17). I'll take snow over that -14 degree crap any day (and yes Tom your temps were lower ).

Late,
Aaron

I've run a 55ax in several airplanes, great engine ,never any deadsticks I however have never put one on any of my Mustangs BUT I've heard from several people that a 55 ax is almost the exact weight as the orig Evo engine and you shouldn't even have to change engine mounts but you will have to re cut the cowling but not much . Remind you that this is on a Mk 1 but I doubt there is a difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 as far as engine mount is concerned.
Somewhere in this thread , Someone had put the 55ax in the Mustang and said it really made it "come alive" which I'm sure is true .
I have orig Evo with a tuned pipe on mine and it runs great , never had a problem BUT I have a couple of 55axs looking for a new home lol. Maybe this coming summer (if it ever gets here .
Windchills tonite of -10 and 3 to 5 inches of snow by morning >>>>>> Happy Flying

wldhiar is correct, the 55 will fit with very little modification, I put one on my mk1 and HAD a blast, just remember that the 55 uses fuel a little faster than the evo, don't ask what happens on a low fly by at full throttle and you run out of fuel

Just ship it to me, Tom. I'll build it and fly it until you can drop by and pick it up LOL.
Stay warm my friend.
Cheers!

Check it out she'll be airbourne as soon as the weather cooperates.
She looks brand new I got it for my father in law a coupla years ago and we only flew it once.
I broke the butterfly loose on the carb and she fired up with 2 year old nitro (open bottle too). I'm gonna reinforce the gear blocks before we fly.

This thread will never die.

That's pretty cool! And here I was thinking I was the only still flying one of these. I'm still flying my version 1 PTS P-51 and have 2 others that need some refinishing and repairs to get airborne.

Does anyone know where I can get a new cowl for this? I have an ARF - PTS from 2006. Here it is:
http://www.vlsdynamics.com/rc/planes...mustang_40.htm

Does that make it a Mark-1 ? It was only flown a few times and never crashed, It's still fine after all these years (just setting on a shelf in garage).

I was thinking of converting to output electric (enough to make it fast) , and get it a FrSky X8R for it. But I need that cowl . Even a part number or source would be appreciated. I remember it being painted and ready to go.

Can't believe this thread is still going ... I see someone bumped it with some new info recently.
