A kickaround plane - Stinger ARF or 4*
I have a YS91 NIB that I've decided needs a home. I need a simple plane that works every time I take it out.
I've got a Sig Rascal and an Ultra Sport 40 (kit) right now - but the US has a Saito that is being a pain right now and I'm waiting on the stronger wing spar from Sig on the Rascal. I want something a little bigger.
I've flown a 4* 60 kit and it was great. The Stinger 60 also has a great reputation.
If you had a couple hundred bucks and a YS91AC what would you buy - Stinger ARF or 4* ARF.

I'd get a h9 ultra stick 60. The ultimate kickaround plane IMO. The ys will yank it around like a rag doll. plus the crow is really fun..

Stinger 60 ???
I have the Lanier 60 Stinger ARF. It is a blast to fly. However, it is characteristically nose heavy. With a Saito 100 (21 oz with muffler) on the nose, I had to invent a way to put servos and battery in the tail to balance without adding weight. I think with the YS 91 at about 27 oz you will HAVE to add weight to balance.

The Stinger is nose heavy - wow - that is surprising because of the short nose.
I would rather not add any weight.
I assume the Stinger is more aerobatic than the 4*.

I'd put that YS in a Super Kraft Cap Sport and go have some fun. Light weight, lots of wing area, big control surfaces, well built, full 3D, and it's even good looking on the flight line.

I have not tried the .60 sized Stinger, but do love my Giant Stinger. However, I DO fly the 4*60 with the YS .91AC. Wow, what a combo! Though the Stinger has (I think) a fully semetrical airfoil, the semisemetrical airfoil on the 4*60 still allows for some pretty wild stuff. The overall airfoil is probably a bit thinner on the 4* than on the Stinger, and the wing loading is probably a bit lighter on the 4*, though I cannot say for sure without weighing a .60 sized Stinger.
Either way, I doubt you will be dissapointed with either plane and that engine combination!

My 4*60 came out balanced perfectly with my YS91AC, however unlike you guys I probably won't ever get past 2/3 throttle. It leaps in the air and will go anywhere, or you can take off at 1/3 throttle and it almost looks like something scale leaving the ground.

My number 1 plane in my hanger is the Stinger 60 with a Saito 80 in the nose. I toss it around and it begs for more. I did have to add lead shot in the tail but it still flies great. The only thing I changed was the landing gear, it looked to spindly for me. I wish I had put a 90 in it. With the 80 running on 30% it can almost hold a hover.
