Default Hangar 9 Ultra Stick 40 - Sullivan Tailwheel Bracket - Help?

Anybody done this? I can't figure out how to do it without interfering with the rudder.

Thanks!

I cut a piece of 1/8 inch plywood slightly larger than the sullivan mount and epoxied it to the bottom of the fuse. Mounted the sullivan mount, and took wire to rudder.

no clearance issues.

good luck!

when you say you epoxied it to the bottom of the fuse, you mean the bottom of the horizontal stab? Maybe ours are different, but the horizontal stab just epoxies to the bottom of my fuse.

Does the spring/wire just go straight back, under the elevator, to the rudder?

Any pictures?

Thanks for the quick response.

Like a previous poster said you have to get the surface on the bottom of the fuse at the same level as the rudder. Then the tail wheel and spring will line up perfectly. You drill a little hole in the bottom of the rudder, rough up the spring with sand paper and CA it into the hole with thick CA. Also clean the spring with alcohol before gluing. I can't remember what the Ultra stick looked like but here's my CAP232 Sullivan tal wheel. They are all the same.

I understand the concept... the problem is that the elevator on the ultra stick actually sits just below the rudder....

Yeah I just realized that. Glue a dowel into the rudder. Then drill a little hole in the dowel and glue the tail wheel spring into that. The idea is to get that spring in a straight line so it does not pull out of that dowel. Also make sure the bottom of your fuse has a ply deck to screw the tail wheel bracket into.

Drill a hole in the bottom of the rudder and CA the dowel in. Piece of cake. It's way better than the stock tail wheel. The spring will keep you from damaging the servo on hard landings.

JoeAirPort... how do you keep it from interfering with the elevator?

I just used the stock setup on my US60 and I have had no problems after 300 or more flights. The tail is only on the ground a second or two anyway. I fly from a grass strip but have flown from a scoccer field and everything is still tight.

The rudder can't go that far so it's not an issue.
