Default Simply magic vs Magic extra

could someone explain to me the big difference between these two?
I'm looking for a good intermediate plane to practice more advanced aerobatics / maybe some 3d.
So what is the difference, they seem pretty much the same?
Thanks!

I had the Magic Extra 300L with an OS .50SX on the business end. It flew like a champ and I really liked it but you know how this hobby is, you buy one and fly it then sell it to fund another project. Here is the info off of Model Techs homepage about the difference in the two planes.

"If you are like thousands of R/C aerobatic fliers who learned to fly "outside the box" with the Magic, you’re going to want to rock your world with the Magic Extra. It’s been modified from the Magic for optimal performance with a .46 two-stroke. We’ve reduced the wing area for better penetration on windy days, making it an overall faster plane. Its taller fuselage allows the Magic Extra to do more typically "Pattern" maneuvers better, such as knife edge maneuvers, and hesitation point rolls. Its new airframe design also gives better all-around tracking, for a more confidence inspiring performance. All this, and it still hovers like a friendly ghost! Like the Magic, the Magic Extra is an all wood ARF covered in real iron on film for easy repairs."

The main difference between the two is the Simply Magic has a cowl, the Magic Extra does not.

skorman hit the big difference, the cowl. You mount the engine inverted in the simply magic but upright in the magic extra. There is also a half inch difference in the wing so the wing loading is slightly different.

Some people don't like an inverted engine so they cut the cowl and mount it upright on the simply magic.

That extra half inch gives the simply magic one more ounce on the wing loading.

I had a magic extra, which is my av pic, I liked it; until I lost it.

If you get one stay within the balance range. Some guys on here say it needs to be further back around 4 inches. If you're not use to flying tail heavy planes you'll lose it on take off. I used a Magnum 46 with hitec 425s and balanced without any added weight.
