That would be a tough call. Assuming the P51 is all the reviews say its cracked up to be, it would be a wise choice for those who want to move along quickly. But I suspect the base trainers are still a little more docile than the rigged P51. So I would guess it depends upon your fear factor.
Plus the P51 is more expensive right?

They both come close to about $400 dollars. The Superstar EP would be a little bit cheaper overall though when the radio and everything is bought.

I sort of agree with the TEXAN but I think before we can help you, -- you are going to have to decide on electric or glow ????? And that is a dicission you have to make. Can you do whats needed with elect? and can you do what's needed for glow? What is YOUR interest?
I also won't comment on the P51 as I have not flown it or tried to teach someone on it, sounds good but that's as far as I'll go. As far as electric's go -- I'm not much into them and still have to form an opinion sometime before I die.
Sorry I'm not more help but YOU need to decided what kind you are best suited too then we can help. ENJOY !! RED

Glow vs. electric differences. Both need batterys for the receiver. The epowered planes are on average under powered unless you replace the motor and battery pack whcih can get expensive. Epowered planes are usually smaller than glow powered planes to try to keep the weight down. The smaller planes have to be kept in closer to be able to see what they are doing. You won't find a epowered trainer with a 70" wing! Epowered trainers usually need to fly in fairly calm conditions because of the low power. After each flight, with a glow plane you refuel and then go again. With an electric you either have to recharge the pack or take it out and replace it with a fully charged pack. Six 10 minute flights is considered an average days training because the transmitter batterys may start to get low after that. So for electric you either need 6 fully charged packs to take to the field or a couple of packs and a fast charger whcih you will also need to have a power source for. Yow will need a method to keep track of which pack is charged and which is depleted. At the end of the day you will need to recharge the packs as well as the transmitter and receiver batterys. To me, I think its easier all around to train with a glow powered plane and then try electric after you pass your wings if you still want to. [8D]
