Is anyone else excited about HL offering the Sr. Telemaster in ARF form as I am? I always wanted a Sr. Telemaster but never wanted to build one.
Here's the link: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/srtele-arf.htm
Looks like they have the Giant Telemaster Kit coming out again in their new magazine at 143 1/2" wingspan. Now, that would be a kit worth building as well.

So glad they came out with a nice arf of the telemaster.. I've seen quite a few of the kitted ones fly over the years.......Heck I even seen one with a bombay drop toilet paper......The wind ended up blowing the charmin across to one of our club members front yards!!!
I will hae to upload a video we made with the old telemaster and a micro video camera.. These airplanes are mules!!I will have to have one myself......

I hope its the same design as the Sr Tele ARF they offered several years ago. I think it was a better design than the kit. I do hope they change to a more modern covering material than the PVC covering they came with.

The telemaster is a .40. The Sr Telemaster is 94" and the Giant Telemaster is 144" Three planes of the same design just different size. The kit is available from HL in their catalog but not on the web yet. I think I may even get around to building the kit someday since I'll have the room for something that big now.

HL's order number is HLA112 - Aero Craft 12 Foot Telemaster Kit.....$349.00
23 lb flying weight.
Per HL, the recommended motor size for the Sr. is a .61 2-stroke or .91 4-stroke.
Anyone know for the giant? The weight is 23lbs and they recommend the AXI 5330/24 motor for it. What size gasser?

I used a G-38 for power on my 144" Telemaster in the mid 80's, with all that wing it really doesn't require much power unless you are using it for a glider tug.
As for the Sr. Telemaster ARF...I (like bentgear) also hope they use something better for covering material now, last time they sold the ARF it was covered with the worst yellow "shelf" paper I ever saw! Back then it was a better deal to just buy the ARC (almost ready to cover) version and cover it your self with Monocote...

Good info. I was thinking that a MVVS 35 would be a great motor for the giant telemaster.
Per HL's website / catalog...."Covered in yellow Iron-on covering..." That could be anything. Hope to have one in soon enough to be able to let people know what I think about the covering. It would take much to recover it in something else anyway before you started assembly.
Thanks guys,
Kevin

With any type of headwind It would leap into the air in about 5 ft. at 3/4 throttle. However once airborne it flew absolutely beautiful.
Nothing flies like a big plane
I sold it and now I have a Tele 40 with a OS 40 FSR engine.. I'll save the maiden flight for next spring.

Senior Telemaster ARF came today, real nice plane. Construction is like the old S.T. ARF but the covering is iron on and well done not a wrinkle or loose seam anywhere. I do think they should leave the Hobby Lobby/Telemaster stickers off for the user to apply or not as he chooses, at least they came off easily. I think I`ll change the tires for some Dubro`s or Sullivans, don`t like big foam tires. Don`t plan to go electric, will use a Magnum 90FS.

A Friend of mine received his Senior Tele today.. he doesn't like : wheels, H.L. sticker, rubber bands on wings. For the wings, he will put two dowels in front and two 1/4-20 bolts in back. He also got a new Saito 82 for it. We will cover the wire LG ala Cub fashion. BTW, he may paint it to cover the Yellow.. Looks good tho. The wing joiners look pretty strong.
Do you have any idea whether the struts are functional?? Don't see any reference to them in the manual. He is relatively new flyer and I don't want anything to happen to the plane. Any comments? I am a long time flyer but welcome advice .

Roy, as info,
Never bothered to put the struts on mine. Never bothered to bolt the wings on, just using the rubber bands, can be a pain finding the right ones tho. Not sure how many flights on it, in the 100's or how many hours.
Not sure what the covering on the new version is, but the older ARF used a PVC material so make sure the paint will stick to it. Got kinda scary and stinky when it was time to tighten it up.

A good thread.
I've just noticed the Senior Tele listed as an Arf and am tempted to get one. Strange that HL is only recomending one of their AXI electric motors.....
"10 lbs. 8 oz. flying weight (41 series AXI motor, 16 NiMH cells). This is EXACTLY the same flying weight that it is when equipped with a glow engine. "
Thats a bit hard to imagine. Must be one heck of a heavy engine they are thinking of.
Or else the suggested batteries will give it a 5 min. flight.
One photo shows that it comes out of the box with no decals. I too, would like to add or not as I like.
I would like to see a Giant Tele. Recently the plans alone were selling for $500+, so that kit sounds like a bargain. [X(]

Did you have to heat the Hobby Lobby/Telemaster stickers to get them off? Was it a gooey mess?

Broken Wings;
I've just taken some HL decals off the new ARF version with gentle heat from a heat gun. Lift a corner and slowly pull the decal back over itself. Be gentle.
