Default Tower Trainer 40 Aileron Hinges

Hello Everyone,

I have a Tower Trainer 40 MkII. I have tried twice installing the ailerons. The manual says put six drops CA on each side of hinges. What a mess.

I cut hinges and put new ones to one side with three drops each side. A lot better, but still too stiff.

That means I have two sets of slots. The two at the tip are 3/8" from the tip and 3/8" apart. The inboard "sets" are 6" apart and the two in the sets are 5/8" apart.

I would like to change to Robart 1/8" Hinge Point hinges and try again. My question is: Will the trailing edge have enough structural integrity left with an 1/8" hole between the tip two hinges and inboard two hinges ? Or does anyone have any Better suggestions as to what to do ?

Any advice, Please, is Greatly Appreciated.

Thank You,

waynerr

You are using thin CA, right?

Waynerr, if you've already installed CA Hinges twice, I won't recommend trying them again on this plane, so I would suggest going with the Robarts. The wing will be plenty strong enough to hold them.

But for future reference, read this article on the proper way to install CA Hinges.

Thank You for your replys, both of you,

Jim, yes I did use thin CA glue, I missed putting that in my post.

MinnFlyer, I looked the instructions over. The only thing I did not do, and knew to do, but forgot, was drill the holes in the middle of the slots. As the instructions say, that will cause a problem, Sooo. Thank You for the advice on the Robart hinges.

Again, Thank You both,

waynerr
