I took my Evergreen P-51 from AK-Models out today for her first flight and for a warbird this plane was a pleasure to fly!
I have a Magnum .91 FS(inverted) thats is plenty of power as a matter of fact flew at 1/2 -3/4 throttle the whole time, landings were a breeze, you could get this plane at a walking pace and did not notice any tip stall.
One thing about this airplane was I had to trim a lot of aileron in to fly hands off and upon lading notice that the ailerons had about a 1/4 in. difference, what could cause this?
All in all though this plane REALLY looked nice in the air and the retracts worked just fine on the paved runway but if you got in the grass it would nose over,no big deal there.
It started to get windy around 1:00pm so I packed up and went home but can't wait to fly again this week!

I have the same plane. Need some help with installing the engine mounts and any other watchout you can think of. Did you center the back of the engine over the firewall hole? My concern is not having the cowl to line up correctly if I guess wrong. My plans show no measurements and the firewall was not pre-drilled.
I plan on using a Satio 100 fs (mounted inverted) along with standard futaba servos S3004 and a low profile retract servo with a futaba 6EXA for controling.
I also went out and bought some robart 609HD retracts with 3/16 struts instead of using the stock, along with epoxying the retracts mounts and wheel area to beef them up. My field is a grass and not all the smoth.

I had one of these planes which are basically just a knock off of the Hangar 9 60 size Mustangs. Mine flew just as you said. No bad habits and no tendency to stall at low speed. It glides nice on landings. I didn't bother with Robart retracts, although I did order a set of Hangar 9 retracts and replaced the stock retracts with them and didn't have any problem. The Hangar 9 units drop right in. As for the mounting the motor, I thnk I just lined up the engine with the hole on the firewall and that worked out ok. The one problem I had with the plane was when the elevator horn pulled out of the elevator. Upon closer examination, the wood they use for the elevator was very soft and weak. I reenforced it with some harder wood and flew the plane for many months with no problems. It finally met it's demise on a deadstick at low altitude when I tried to turn it back to the field and lost too much airspeed and cartwheeled it into the ground. Since I had a Hangar 9 mustang waiting in the wings, I just went ahead and built that rather than rebuilding the evergreen model.
This is a picture of my evergreen mustang when it was still new.

miklos,
Thanks for the feedback on the motor mount. I will give that a try and based on your pic, your cowl looks great. Sorry about your plane, it looked real nice. I hope when I'm done with mine it looks like yours. Also, I think I will put some thin CA in the holes for all my control horns to beef them up.
Also, based on a lot threads about the P-51 did you have to fly your in under power or high idle? Or did she float right down?
