Sig SE or Global Ultimate

Hey guys, I am looking at getting my next plane but I can't decide between the SE or the Global Ultimate. All along I couldn't wait to get my hands on a SE, but recently I read a review on the Global Ultimate 46 with a magnum 91 4s. Sounds like a good plane. Any thoughts on the two planes? I would like to hear both sides from some experienced pilots of these planes. thanks

I have a kit built SE that I love! It is a simple plane to fly and can really be beat around the sky. I have an MDS .48 on it and, while it will not quite hover for long, I can get it up and hang it for a bit. With the CG back a bit it is a super performer. I have a big Ultimate (DP ARF) that I love also. But it's not a fun fly plane. The extra wing will add weight. MHO.

I got a SE with a magnum 91 4stroke up front. It flies great
and hovers like a dream. The only problem is that the plane
is a little nose heavy and if you want a 4stroke in this plane
the bigger prop you can get is 13 inch. with 3 inch. wheels.
Other thing is to get the cg on the mark I had to put the battery pack all the way back. I got a saito 91 that I am going to put
in this plane to see how it handles with out the 4oz more from the magnum. Happy Landing

While I made major changes to the plane, a stock one with a 91 in the nose IMHO would be a blast to fly. I have the DP Ultimate, with the mods I made you will have a smaller version of the big one. I fly sportsman IMAC and the Global will do that sequence with no problem will preforming freestyle with the best of them.
I have flown the SE and while a good flyer, I was not impressed. The limiting factor when putting a bigger engine in it is the ground clearance, thus forcing you to run a smaller dia. higher pitch prop resulting in more speed and a greater chance of flutter.
If you have a big shoehorn you can stuff anything in the Global Ultimatee

I also was deciding between an Ultimate or an SE.
I told my friends I was looking for something that was fairly straight for a little pattern work but that could do the aerobatic tumbles too.
My friends suggested the SE was a fun plane, but was a little to generalized. In other words it wasn't as good at 3D funfly stuff as some of the profile aircraft specifically designed for funfly (Pizazz), nor did it knife edge and maitain patterns as good as the specialized pattern planes. While it could do many things, it could not do them well. I have no first hand knowledge of whether this is true or not.
I bought the Global Ultimate and strapped a YS .63 on it with a 13x6 prop. Can be very straight and true and is very aerobatic too, to include hovering. I'm very happy with it's stability and wildness...easy to land though it doesn't deadstick too well. Also, be sure to reinforce the landing gear block as mine and another here both broke off on light landings.
I'm happy with my choice. I have the Tower Kaos ARF on back order for $109.00 for a TT Pro .46. Something cheap and fun and specialized for pattern training evern though the Ultimate does just fine at it

I have a SE that is a real sweet plane to fly. Enlarge the rudder about 1/2 inch and the same with the elevators and it will hover real well. Mine has a TT Pro-46 and it will hover with an 11x4 prop but just barely at 5 pounds even. It's a ball to fly on a windy day too. Oh yes, I sorta modified the nose a bit too.

What a BEAUTIFUL job, Cuban8. That's a gorgeous model.
I agree with the statement that the Somethin' Extra does many things, but none of them well. It's a great little knock-around model; but I sold mine after putting a lot of stick time on a pal's Contender. The Contender is just as agile as the SE, and more stable in "normal" flying. Plus, that central flap gives it all sorts of neat capabilities. All that comes at a price; it is a PITA to build. The SE almost builds itself; I'm just finishing up the wing on my new Contender, and it really is 70s-vintage construction...
But of course, you can't get a Contender ARF. If the Tower Kaos ARF is half as good as the kit version, THAT is what you want for pattern-type flying. The Kaos is one of those classics that I will always have one of. I've got a 40 that I built 7 years ago; found the kit at a swap shop- it had been packed in 1975! It is my old stand-by, replacing one I foolishly sold 10 years ago. The only thing I've done that flies better is a Kaos 60. I lost that one years ago, but was given another kit (1974 vintage) by a friend who ran across it at a swap shop in Ohio. That one I'm guarding like gold. I've been hesitant to build it, because I know there probably aren't any more, period.
The Kaos is certainly not a fun-fly type. But you won't find anything in a sport model that flies more smoothly.
