Is an OS91 Surpass enough engine for the new Great Planes Curtiiss Hawk? I have a 91 and was wondering if anyone out there has flown one with this engine. Great Planes says 91-120 on the box. Any help is appreciated.

Well, experience has always lead me to buy the higher side of the recommended size. But then I would even leave that alone and go on looks. If it look like it fit, it go in!!

Goe toe the hread below, it has all the info on the P-6e you need. Don't believe anyone has flown it with a .91 yet, but someone is in the process on installing one. It flys on half throttle with an OS FS-120, so the .91 would probably do the job, just wouldn't have alot of extra power.

I would not think the .91 would have enough power for this big of a plane. I will probably need weight in nose as well, so I would go w/ a 1.20.

I am flying my PT-17 Stearman with a YS 91. Flies real scale like.

Our club prez had his new P-6E at the field today, he put a G-38 in it, with a 18-8 prop. It flew like it really meant business. He said the balance came out perfectly, didn't have to add any weight at all.

Damn nice looking plane, gotta have one.

Here's mine with the YS 1.20 - real good power with 3 blade 15x8 and no extra weight needed.

G-38?? Holy farkin' overpowered aircraft, Batman! (apologies to anyone offended by the "Johnny Dangerously" 'profanity') Did he hover it? Maybe somebody'll try a G-62 next! A .91 four stroke will fly it in a very scale manner... as it should be flown. Of course this is just my opinion

I tend to agree, G-38 would fly two of them. A G-26 would be a plenty if you wanted gas power.

My cowl measures 8.5 inches wide at the widest point.

I'm kinda new at this, but wouldn't a G-26, or any other gas engine for that matter, be alot of extra weight on the airframe and landing gear? I mean, the ARF calls for a 1.20 max and there are guys on here building them with G-38's??
Someone please help me decide what to use. I want to go gas, but 20 some extra ounces on the nose seems like a lot.

I Am flying mine with ST2300 And modified Bisson muffler so no cowl cutting Now muffler exits to rear of cowl 16x8 master prop but will change to 3 blade same size Another flight Sunday Beautiful!!

Make sure you do not use the supplied screws for the cabane.A lot of other owners have wisely used bolts and blind nuts.
