US41 Engine Questions

Any idea's on removing the hub from the flywheel? Is it pretty much straight forward..."unscrew" the darn thing? Also, my engine just doesn't seem to be getting that top ended power it should be putting out. It runs flawlessly at top speed, but others and myself feel something is lacking. Could be just us, I know, thinking...."wow, a 41cc should rip and roar[>:]".....am I over expecting a bit here? It came off my 1/3 scale Balsa USA J-3 and I put it on my Great Planes Great Big Stick. I have tried the 20x8 and moved to a 18x12 sense then. Any imputs welcomed here people.

Hmm... my US41 kinda felt and sounded the same- never really "got on plane" so to speak, ran great, reliable, but never screamed full throttle, just kinda "cruised" along about 6800 RPM with a Bennet muffler. Even the occasional "burble" full throttle- leaning it out caused it to dead stick. Only about 1 gallon through it too, maybe thats the problem, not broken in??

I think you guys are looking for too much from this engine. I have a Q42 which is the forerunner of the US41 and the best I could ever do is 6900 on an 18 - 10 prop, I have a Brison 2.4 and it turns the same prop 1000 more rpms. My Q42 has been sitting in a box since 1991, tooooo heavy and toooooo underpowered. A US41 rippin' and roarin' ? In your dreams maybe

Such as? Please give me a few engine choices if you don't mind. I've been flying this engine on my Great Planes Great Big Red Stik. I'm leaning toward a G-38 or 45. Now fella's , before you start replying with !QUOT!Darn, that's over the cc rating of the plane!QUOT!....I do know this, thank you. Now back to my topic.......I have to go and check the weight on this, but I'm thinking, if I am going to spend money on a new engine, then perhaps the DA 50? Now hold on and listen to why.......I 'm thinking maybe I could set the throttle to not go as high and save my airplane from coming apart in the sky? Just a thought everyone, that's all. Is that a major mistake? Another reason, I'll probably want to use the engine on a 50cc size plane in the future or even just sale the engine sense the resale value will hold up better that the Zenoah's.

. First - I did not run the numbers on your GBS. But, if you're gone to by a new engine anyway, get the one that's most versatile - the DA50, or similar. I don't think it will be too much overkill - maybe just a little. If it'll fly it - buy it.

Well where I'm living we are at 4500 ft. above Sea Level, so there is a quite a loss of engine power, about 25% or so, in the Summer months due to the really high density altitude with warmer air, so over powering a model at Sea Level is not overpowering one here.
That said, I firmly believe in throttle management and would rather overpower than be underpowered. You could also run the engine a little rich, or restrict the throttle travel if you don't think you can resist using what's available. I think that any of the newer 50cc class engines would be a good choice for you. By "newer" I mean those designed for model aircraft use vs. converted weed eater engines. As noted above, any of those engines will allow for a much larger selection of models when you decide to get a new one.
I don't want to get into the "Chevy vs. Ford vs. Chrysler" type debate on brands since I believe they're all good engines with a few pluses and minuses to each one, but I run ZDZ...
