Default Sig Something Extra Help

I have Sig Something Extra that I am in the process of completely re working. It is geting a new everything from covering to engine. My question is, are the support rods that join the base of the aircraft to the elevator and elevator to the rudder inportant. I have had a real weight issue with this aircraft and I am trying to lighten it some. The ones that were on there are rusted anyway. If they are needed does anyone have any tips on a lighter solution. Thanks...........................

A light weight solution is Spiderwire fishing line. It can be run through the same holes in the tail already. Then glue it in place. It's dose not have to be guitar string tight just snug.
