Default Modify Phoenix 300s arf for 3D?

I am considering modifying my extras control surfaces for more 3D capability. Is there anything I should consider when doing this? Any risks? ...can anyone point me to any "how to" resources.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure why you would want to alter what you have to make it more 3D capable instead of getting something already set up for 3D flight but the basic stuff you need for this type of flight regimen is big horsepower and big control surfaces. If you have those two things you can make any plane 3D.

Will instead of going out and buying somthing new, I figured I would try and modify what I have... I know I need more surface, I am just not sure the best way to modify the existing surfaces to do so. Do I build on to them?... Do I put on whole new ones???...and how? Never actually done any scratch building or kit building...just repairs to arfs.

If you are determined to do it I would build new surfaces and make them at least a third larger.

The main problem with this plane is not the size of control surfaces but the weight. Even with the standard throws the planes snaps really easy. You should try first to shave off some weight. Mine is flying nice and performs all basic aerobatic maneuvers but it's nothing more than a decent sport flyer. It was my first plane and I didn't touch it in a long time. I don't think you can modify it easy to perform well as a 3d platform. Sorry for being so nihilistic about it, it's just my opinion and I would better buy something else or build from scratch than working a lot hoping in some magical results.
Again , is just my opinion.

Boby,
Thanks for your thoughtful response. You make a good case. I have noticed that it is much heavier than the 3.5lbs stated on tower.

Cheers!
