Default Dave Patricks edge 540T

Thinking about buying a Dave Patrick Edge 540T, the 79" wing. Does anyone know anything about this plane. Will it fly well with an OS 160?

Default RE: Dave Patricks edge 540T

If you build it exactly as Dave Patrick says it will fly pretty good but not any rocket. He recommends one rudder servo and one elevator servo, both pull pull. All his hardware is very light. Use his 2.8 ounce fiber filled plastic beam engine mounts. Not too big of a gas tank. Like I said build it just as he tells you and the OS 1.60FX will be pretty good. Once you go to the dual elevator servos, it adds at least a half pound (extensions, push rods, etc). I have one with a Moki 2.10 that is 15 pounds, 3.5 ounces. It's a little heavy and does not have enough power IMO. Flies good 3D but really not enough power to get out of trouble (higher winds in a torque roll). You will be around 13+ pounds with that engine. The Saito 220 is the perfect engine for this ARF IMO.

You can go gas but it brings the weight to even higher levels, more like 16+ pounds.

So you can build it very light like Dave says and you will be happy with the 1.60FX, it will be very good sport and 3D. But not tons of vertical. This plane is bigger than you think. Anyone that sees it says how big it is. It's no 120 ARF that's for sure.
