Best ARF...

RE: Best ARF...
I have had a chance to try lots of new flyers trainers and the LT40 has about the best rainer quality I have seen. I found out that its ground handling is also far better than other trainers. After I soloed on mine I was able to hang on the prop with a 40FX engine and an 10-5 prop! [8D]

Imho the best trainer for anyone has to be the Great Planes Big Stick 60. The plane is virtually viceless and can handle the punishment meted out in the learning stages. Later when more accomplished, put a bigger motor in and get excellect performance.

Hobbistar 60 great flying and you can use it as a step up without buying another plane. I'm not being bios cause I had the Kadet LT-40 and i flew a few other trainers and thought the hobbistar was much better out of all of them. Second best is the kadet lt-40.

RE: Best ARF...
Ask for the best arf...same as asking for the best car. there will be as many answers as there are planes. Most will answer with the one they train with or the club uses. my 2 cents worth. the Nexstar. Y? computer simulator included, removable slow speedslats. built in "gyro". good motor. good computer. Big size. Bad part...price is up there, and after about 4 or 5 solo flights you will no longer need the "gyro". What the others have said about the LT 40 is also true. It is a really good trainer. But you need to do a lot more work to get it ready. It's not hard work, but there is more of it. And I think that doing the bit of work that is needed to get it ready will help you understand the building/repair/flying. The WORST trainer is anything that has the words "Fleis LIKE a trainer" on the box. Jeff

Jeff has it pretty much right. Many have only flown one trainer so it is the best. Also, the majority of ARF trainers are so similar that you’d never know one from another if they were covered alike.
I’ve had 3 trainers and would recommend all of them:
Hobbico Hobbistar 60 ARF
Global Right Flyer 60H ARF
Great Planes PT-60 Kit
My “LT-40” recommendation comes from seeing them at the field and talking to the owners; plus the fact that it’s about the same size as my 60 size trainers but flies just fine with a 46.

LT-40 is a good one. One of my students flew it. Very easy to fly.
Kadet Senior is a good one, probably the easiest to fly. It is pricy and a little fragile. I built and flew one. It flew like a blimp, we named it the RED Zepplin. I would not recommend it as a first time trainer.
I also like the new Avistar. It is a little too small and responsive to make it my favorite. Some of the younger people do better with it than a flat bottom floater.
I am currently teaching some people on a Right Flyer 40, flies good but not my favorite.
Right now my favorite trainer is the WM Skyraider Mach one. It is a semi-symmetrical, but very light and good quality. The best thing about it is the street price is about $70 and will fly with a bushing 40, $50 engine. My little brother who is a new flyer likes it the best out of the trainers he has flown. Unlimited vertical with a 46 BB. I have a friend who is returning to flying after many years and this will be the plane for him.
Here is my current trainer beater fleet. Sorry cluttered photos. Plane in the rear is not mine, for the friend returning to flying.

There is a great website dedicated to beginners. It is sponsored by the AMA. It contains a ton of beginner information and a long list of Trainer ARF/kit reviews.
