I am looking for a 60 size class warbird (ie 60-91 2 stroke) with flaps, I know world models is releasing a Spitfire but that has true scale landing gear making it a nightmare on the ground.
Anyone make a P-51 or P-47 with flaps in this size class?
I was hoping to avoid going giant scale to have a full featured warbird. Have been running through these posts but no luck yet.
I am looking for an ARF, hense posting here.
Thanks, Archer.

Check out the VQ P-40 Warhawk ARF over at Morris. It's a brand new model. I pre-ordered it, Morris says it's expected in their warehouse on Monday, and should ship that day. It has mechanical retracts with oleo struts and scale split flaps. Eight servos if fully configured (2 x ailerons, 2 x flaps, 1 x rudder, 1 x elevator, 1 x throttle, and 1 x retracts). According to Morris it's the nicest model that VQ has brought into the US to date.

I too pre-ordered from Morris about a month and a half ago. An A-26 Invader. No flaps on the A-26. According to the twinmann review at rcwarbirds, it apparently doesn't need them.
Debbie (from Morris) told me the shipping containers had finally arrived on the west coast. They were supposed to be shipped to Morris (in Texas) Friday or Monday. I hope to have mine sometime late next week.
When you get your P-40, let me know. I'd like to compare notes on VQ quality.

The A-26 looks tasty. May need to do one after the P-40, but may just wait for the Lightning at this point. From what I understand, Morris' container was rerouted due to the port strike and conjestion at the LA/LB port and is en route on land now. They were supposed to get the shipment last Friday, but there was a holdup somewhere and it now looks like Monday.
Will definitely need to compare notes on quality. I've got a VQ Zero and was actually surprised with the quality given the price. Robert said that the P-40 is considerably better and much more scale in appearance than anything that VQ has brough statewise to date. I'll definitely post an update when my plane arrives.

So far the P-40 is ahead. I finally found the pricing for the plane.
The gear appears to be slightly wider then scale which would give better ground handling which is only reason I do not like the Spitfire.
The zero sounds nice, but I only see 6 servos on the 60 size. t,e,r,ax2,retracts. none for flaps. The new giant scale one has them but bigger then I want. I have a katana and a WW1 Albatros for giant scale.
Stuka is ok but not a performance plan. Want something I can fun fly with.
Thanks for the leads. P-40 winning unless someone has a P-51 or P-47 out there.

Did you check out Giant Scale Planes' P-47 ?
http://www.giantscaleplanes.com/P47Thunderbolt_71.htm
or their P-51 ?

Flair seems to also sell these.

Missed the giant scale planes stuff. Normally that would be perfect but they have a very bad rep on this web site.
Thanks much for the info though.

Got my P-40 today! Absolutely gorgeous. Quality was OK with my VQ Zero. The Warhawk is lightyears ahead. As nice if not nicer than any of the Kyosho, Great Planes, Hanger 9, etc ARFs that I've built to date. The retracts with oleo struts and working split flaps really finish the model! The pilot figure is cheezy, but that I can fix. Now which engine to stick up front? I've got a 91 4C...

Unfortunately the covering is not the regular iron-on stuff (aka Monokote or Ultracote). But that's the only detraction that I've found of the model so far. The covering is applied tight though. I've got 2 other models that use this "alternative" type of prepainted covering (it's not exactly shelf paper), a VQ Zero and Kyosho Mustang and it actually wears quite well (my Mustang has 40+ flights over the last year and still looks good), is shrinkable, and quite durable. The main problem is repair-ability, at least VQ supplies some extra in case you need to do small repairs.
I got the AVN Flying Tigers model.

How's this for detail. On top of the preinstalled rotating retracts with oleo struts (linkages and bellcranks are all in the wings already, and the struts are functional for a very high cool factor) and ready to go split flaps which are painted on the insides, the rudder and elevator are airfoiled! In fact the horizontal and vertical slabs are built up and sheeted! Anybody know where I can get a decent set of shark teeth decals?

It does come with the teeth decals, but the ones included don't do the kit justice. I want some which are as close to what was painted on the AVN P-40s as possible...

Ok, I just ordered the P-40 today. Looks good but see mixed reviews on VQ stuff. What size servos are recommedned for this bird? Any special retract servo required. F2Racer is only one reporting on this kit so far.
It looks great, and quality per pictures seems alot higher then the older 40 size planes.
Morris web site does state warp problems with cowl and gives info on how to fix.

I agree with f2racer about VQ covering wearing well. I got many flights on my previous generation Zero, and the covering is still holding up. I got a replacement canopy from the latest shipment, and it's thicker than my original one. Hopefully it will be more durable.
