HAN9 J-3 40 ARF 4C Help
Getting a HAN9 J-3 40 ARF. Want to put a Saito 56 or 65 in it. Anyone have a picture showing the cowl cut outs?
Will a 56 handle it? If I have to cut it up too much looking to electify but do not want the price of the batteries to go with EFL 46 Brushless motor.
Pictures please
Bill

A .56 will fly it fine, if what you want is a Sunday putt-around. If you want to do things a Cub was never meant to do, or wanted to turn a scale diameter prop, then a .65 or .72 is also a good match. I have one of these on floats with a .72, and knowing how easily it comes off the water with that kind of power, it would also fly scale with floats using the .56. Sorry I can't help much on cowl cutouts, I mounted my engine inverted. Since it is flown over water exclusively, I put an on-board glow driver as a redundant system for extra reliability, but found I didn't need it. Engine never misses a lick, so I just use the glow for starting. Here's some pics of my installation:

Great looking plane and floats.
Is this the ealier version of the HAN9 40 ARF Cub and a Saito72 in picture?
Like the way you got it in with cutting up the cowl. The new Cub has dummy engines molded in on the cowl.

Mine is the older one. I just saw the new one a couple of days ago, WOW. H-9 did a fine job on the scale details, especially the wing struts, I have the supplied dummies (engine) on my plane now, but they don't look as good as the one you have.
Have you considered inverting your engine? The only issue you'd have with cutting the cowl would be with the supplied muffler. I had one of the older style ones, and ordered the old-style elbow, heated and bent it to increase the curve so it would exit the bottom of the cowl. Just make sure your tank height is low enough if you invert (Tank centerline about 1/4-3/8 inches below the spraybar height)
