RE: New KMP Cessna 185
Hi.
The cowl is on at the moment, but I'll try to take a few pics once it comes back off. The mount is very straight forward though. I added a 13mm plywood plate behind the mounting plate for spacing.

Olav-
Thanks so much for posting those photos. The 25cc fits quite nicely. I see you trimmed the bell housing off the motor other than the magneto mount. What size prop are you spinning?
Thanks again for the photos.

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
It's swinging an 18-6 now. I've flown it with a 17-10, but that pitch was a bit much for it. I think 18-8 is the biggest prop it'll spin with a reasonable amount of rpm. Hopefully the 18-6 will work with the floats. I've only flown her on wheels yet.

Here's some water rudders. Don't know if they're scale.

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
Hi guys for those of you who like myself have been flying the 185 from a hard runway, bin the original wheels, the sidewalls in mine collapsed while taxying back to pick up the next tow. I am now running 4 1/2" dubro pump ups which means I now have the required ground clearence to swing a 20x10 3 blade.
cheers Rossco.

Could one of you lads post a photo of where/how your pull-pull cables for the rudder exit the fuse. The assembly manual is close to useless for this plane.
KMP... If you are reading this... your instructions stink. Otherwise I like the plane thus far.
Also, Any word on the cockpit kit??
Thanks!

Rossco....
I just re=read your earlier post about locating the elevator servos to the horizontal stab. What a grand idea. Could you please post a photo or two of this? I believe I will be attempting to duplicate that.
I have a few power plant options. 25cc Poulan, 31cc Ryobi and 32cc Poulan engines. I also have an 18cc poulan engine but I think it would be underpowered. I've begun assembly and am about to install the tail surfaces so I'm pretty keen on seeing your solution for the removable elevators.
Thanks a bunch!

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
Hi there Mike as you can see from the pics my rudder horns were made from printed circuit board and glued in from either side with 30 minute epoxy, just make sure the pivot point for the linkage is infront of the hinge line otherwise the rudder won't centre. I also used closed loop for the tail wheel and hooked both directly onto the rudder servo that I relocated at the back of the servo tray to make room for the 24oz tank, receiver and rx battery. I also out of preference replaced all of the horns and hardware too with pc poard and dubro clevises, purely personal preference. I'll take some more pics for you tonight.

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
Hi there Mike well as requested here are some pics of how I set my tail up, the servos I used are HS 125mg servos running on 6 volt. If you look at the centre of the rear fuse pic you can just make out the female end of the servo lead that I glued into the rear of the fuse. The dowls were cut down from the wing location pins. I found after 30 or so flights that the anti rotaion pin holes in the fuse were begining to wear so I glued in brass tubes from one side to the other with thin CA. on the bottom inside skin I glued in some 1.5mm ply and made a frame of 4mm x4mm ply to box the servo and also give the mounting screws something to bite into and was glued in with 30 minute epoxy. The cutouts were made with a razor saw and are simply held in place with glider hinge tape.
To mount the tail I have drilled through the alloy joiner and tube and used a Dubro self tapper cap screw.....it really couldn't be simpler and after 250+ flights the self tapper still hasn't come loose although the gear train is starting to show the strains with a little slop setting in..... a legacy of metal gears.
cheers Rossco
ps if you need any other pics let me know.

Hey wow bbornman an 21x11.5 holly smokes! maybe I can keep my 3 blade spinner for the husky after all..... great pics. Out of interest do you have any idea what RPM your pulling on this prop size?
cheers Rossco.
Oh before I forget here is an inspiration shot based on todays conversation.
Yah I know showwy is only a little bloke but you've gotta give the little fella credit for holding up a big plane!

Hahahah thats not fair mate, posting those photo's is like offering a beer to a person who just walked through the Simpson !!!!!!
You mentioned that the motor were removed, what size motor was it ? and does that mean that the plane has been flown ?
I will tach it next time, I can tell you it does not bog the motor down ! It is a 3 blade dubro spinner.
Cheers

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
I havent flown my 185 in a while (having fun with a 40 size Ultimate at the time). I picked up my new motor for the 185 at the post office to day, I'm replacing the 25cc Poulan with a 26cc CRRCpro. I was kind of worried the Poulan with it's 1,7 Hp wouldn't be powerful enough with the floats mounted, so hopefully the purpose built 2,4 HP CRRC engine will do the trick. I'm also making a new wind shield (Blue tint) as the vibrations from the Poulan engine cracked the stock one!
I'm thinking of making this bird a bit more scale like. I've ordered the Top Flite Cessna 182 Interior kit to see if I can fit it into the 185. I've got a few other Ideas for it as well, Seacommander floats and mounting system to mention some of it. We'll have to se how far I'll take it, I might post a few pics if things are coming along as I hope. It wont happen over night for sure as time isn't on my side nowadays.

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
I have 7% down El. to 50% flap and 8% down El. to 105% flap but it is all relative to the speed that you are flying at. Mine @ 8.1kg with full flap lands at crawling speed.

Hey there BB the motor was TD's 3w 170cs that was removed to sell to someone else but fell through. At this point the model is still unflown but may get the new DL 220cc motor upfront shortly. (yes they do make one, I got told the boys have two on the way)

RE: New KMP Cessna 185
I've decided to go all the way with this plane. Full cockpit interior, opening doors and cargo door, lights, panel lines, rivets, and a new paint job. I've pulled out the old servo trays to make room for the interior, and made a new wind shield today. I took some pictures, but I can't be bothered to upload them now as I really need to go to bed.
This'll be my first attemt at doing some thing scale like!

I thought I'd just use the tank that came with the kit positioned sideways. It shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep my turns coordinated, and dont do any knife edge flying! :P
