Default World Models Ultimate 40

Hi all,

I am in dire need of some good advise. I am about to part with more of my hard-earned cash in honour of this great hobby. I would like to by a Bipe and the obvious choice is a WM Ultimate 40 because of availability here in Namibia. It is also within my budget.

After doing research and reading all the post on RCU about the Ultimate my question remains: Will I be happy with this plane?

I am a fairly good pilot. I am flying for 2 years now and currently have a Ultra Stick 40 and a WM Extra 60 which I have no trouble flying. Do you think this is enough experience to move on to a 40 sized bi-plane?

I know that it will be difficult to asses my situation exactly, but with the combined experience on this web site, I am sure I will get a good idea of which way to go.

Thanks!

As far as flying goes - it's a Great model to fly, quite aerobatic yet stable - a good 1st Bipe. If you can handle the other two planes you mention, you can handle one of these.

Ours flew very happily with an OS 40FX, 10x6 Prop, 10% Nitro fuel.

They build really easily, the instructions are clear and correct and it's supplied with the necessary jigs to get the wing alignment right. Ours was built straight out of the box and we used all of the standard hardware. Everything fitted correctly.

A couple of points
We found that the gluing was lacking in some areas, If I was to buy another one, I would certainly add CA to as many joints as I could access before I did anything else to it. I would even use some thin tubing off the CA bottle to access the joints that I couldn't otherwise reach

Also look at the front firewall to see if you can add some triangular gusset to tie it back to the fuselage a bit stronger - ours came loose on its first flight so it was removed, triangular gusset added to assist in tying it back to the fuselage and it was epoxied back in place.

Having said those two things, I know that many others haven't had any problems with theirs so ours may have one of the unlucky ones.

You've researched these forums, kewl...... I hope you've seen the thread that has pictures and drawings of how the ailerons can be rigged for best results. Do that, and your Ultimate will be one of the best flying airplanes you've had to date. Plus, it's easier to do than the mfg's suggested rigging.

I loaded my Ultimate into the car last night in anticipation of today. Time to go fly her.

Yes - good point on the ailerons, I forgot about that one (Problem with me being located on one side of the planet and the plane being located about as far away as it can be from me on the other side)- it is certainly easier and better than the manufacturers. - I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Nevermind, I found it. It's a lot of info for my little brain. I'll try to make sense of it all, but so far, Am I right if I say you have to cut grooves in the trailing edge of the aileron and glue the horn into that?
